Fuel system cleaner,bp vs shell?

I would change that to Redline SI-1, available on Amazon.. and, yes.

Why? Because the octane relates to your compression/turbo; just like my Volvo. The cleaning ability is different.

Also.. All gas cleans, as gas is a cleaner..

As to Shell/BP/top tier gas, I think it is overpriced for what it is. I add Redline to my no-name gas purchases, and I am certain the PEA In the Redline makes the gas akin to a Shell. Hard driving wil lalso "clear out" some combustion chamber issues; I am sure to let that engine Rev to 5-6k for about 15 seconds a day, on the highway.. Just to let her "stretch her legs," get good hot and circulated on the upper side of normal.. It does a car good. Just as long as you don't do that ALL the time.. but, same way we try to let the oil get up to full temp every time we turn the key, with some exceptions.

You can pay a real premium for "branded" gas when its origins are common with the no-name.. The difference is the addy pack and detergents, yes.. but you can achieve the same result, if you are inclined to use add-in cleaners.. and save come coin. And be good to your car.

How is THAT for useful, threeputpar?

I dont have a turbo car my car is a 1995 Buick Century 3.1 v6.

Ahhh, a Series I 3100. Never had one of those. (Have had two other GM engines.. Three, actually.)

I would like to amend my advice: 87 octane ALWAYS, and use Redline "whenever you want."

Thought you had an Eagle Talon/Mitsu Eclipse with the Turbo....

Like i said wouldnt putting midgrade instead of regular be a benifit and i wouldnt need to add a fuel additive?

boostedtsiawd with the Buick, I do not think that it will since we suspect that 87, 89, (and likely MOST 93) has the same amount of detergents.. detergents = cleaners.

The fuel additive I would use is Redline SI-1. Here is a link. Redline SI-1 fuel cleaner, shipped to your home

Funny you say that. I actually consistently get a big (2-3mpg) drop in efficiency every time I use BP. Whether the driving is in town or on the highway, if BP is in the tank I'll end up with less efficiency.

Never had any definitive increase or decrease with other brands.

Guess my max did not like the new shell formula w/ nitrogen or was it hydrogen mix? . A couple of my pals also noted less distance on full tank with shell. and my kia hates wawa fuel. then again one tank of gas is not enough for the ecu to adjust. The sonoco is only 1 mile away from me plus it has 100 octane racing fuel. dying to try it.


100 octane in a Kia or Maxima ? High octane will not make you KiA or Maxima faster It will destroy your catalytic converter from the lead content that makes the octane,If you have emission test in your area be prepared to replace your entire exhaust because it will never pass being contaminated

Not all 100 octane gas contains lead.
However, a modern stock engine would not benefit from 100 octane. That stuff works in engines that have either dramatically higher than stock compression or boost pressure.

As for additives, bottles of Techron are good, but Redline is even better. I am unsure about Shell brand bottles of injector cleaner.

Not long ago detergent levels were posted in common fuels. Mobil had the highest detergent levels in the regular flavour,shell had the most in the premium flavour. I'm sure a search will pull up the info. She'll had more than double the detergent of the second place finisher if it matters,and it puts the whole same amount of detergent argument to rest.

Most effective cleaner is PEA detergent, cleans best and does not leave its own residue behind in the cleaning process like most other detergents do.

If the cleaner doesn't have around 30-50% PEA concentration look elsewhere.

Just to have it on record, ALWAYS use the octane your car is recommended to use.

If your car calls for 87 octane, use it. Using higher octane levels will decrease performance, as fuel ignition is less efficient.

No it won't. But ignition timing would need to be advanced to get any appreciable gains, unless 87 octane is already triggering knock retard in which case you'd have gains with 91.

On modern cars (from the past 15 years or so) for small changes in octane ( like premium to regular, or vice versa) the ECU will adjust timing and match it perfectly. Absolutely no problems at all. But on an ordinary car you probably won't gain any extra hp so why waste money on premium gas?

I agree and from what data I have gathered Chevron got the mixture of cleaning the fuel system and not scoring lead bearings down to near perfection. Redline has work to do in that department. So I disagree with the Redline is better statement when comparing fuel system cleaners at least.
