Fuel Mileage with Ethanol Added?

Just a note... You can have a vehicle dyno tuned for a specific gas type, and it will take the ethanol content into account, and offset the economy loss. It surprises me that cars don't have specific fuel maps for ethanol gasoline, seeing as pure gas is very rare.
With everything else they are doing to meet CAFE standards, simply changing the timing/ignition and fuel maps is practically free and good for economy and for power, with no downsides.

not entirely. ethanol has a lower energy content AND richer stoich AFR. you WILL take a fuel economy hit with any amount of ethanol blended into gasoline.

My 2013 Silverado with 5.3L....

87 octane gas... 17 mpg avg

89 octane E10... 16 mpg avg (also $.10 cheaper per gallon than gas)

105 Octane E85.... 14 mpg avg. (varies, I use it when the price differential is 60 cents or more less than gas, which makes the loss in mpg a wash compared to price. Cost per mile the same even with lower mpg. During summer months, E85 is usually 80 cents or more less in my area, making it very cost effective to use).
