fuel injector cleaning

I was looking on eBay and they list two different type of products you can attach directly to the fuel rail. One is a canister which you fill with a cleaner and the other uses pressurized cans of cleaner you buy and attach to the hose. I have shop air so its not a problem with the canister. Which is better or is it more likely what cleaner is actually used?

How does this type of fuel injector cleaning compare to adding Chevron Techron to the fuel tank?

The pressure cleaners hooked directly to the fuel rail do a fine job. I have used both, the cannister type where a cleaner is mixed with gas and air pressurized, as well as the cans. The cans are easier/quicker to use. Don't know about cost on the cans, we used an evil FoMoCo injector cleaner we mixed with gas, it cost about $5 per use (4oz in 20oz of gas. You had to be careful if you got it on the floor and stepped in it as it would eat your rubber soles on your boots. Incredible stuff though.

We used a BG setup as well that used pressurized cans, it worked fine as well but I cannot say it was as effective on the tough jobs as the mix rig.

As far as a comparison to Techron, it apples and oranges. To me Techron is more of a preventative use product, injector flushers are used to correct a problem. Injectors are so much more reliable than they were 15 years ago. Around 1991 when Bosch shipped their DRI (Deposit Resistant Injectors)it cut injector cleanings to around 10% of what it was previously.

I'd get the canister one. That way you can use any product you want to. You could use Seafoam, B12 Chemtool, and probably tons of other products.

What kind of car? Some fuel injectors can be damaged by this type of cleaning.

Right now I have a 93 Suburban (TBI) and a 94 Camry 4 cyl. Neither has a problem that I can tell with the fuel injectors, this was more a nice to have tool. The lead in was that I ordered a TBI injector tester kit and the same company sells a cleaning canister that attaches to the tester kit. I think both vehicles have EGR problems, so I need to deal with that first.

Maybe use Techron 2x a year and forget about cleaning through the fuel rail?

Check to see if your Suburban uses ball style multitec injectors. If it does DO NOT use the injector cleaner! Even in tank cleaners destroy these injectors. The ball style injectors do not need cleaning like the pintle style and the cleaner disolves the insulation around the coil. If you want I can post pictures.

If your not having a major problem why not use a over the counter one you add to the gask tank like TECHRON.

if its TBI, its not a multec injector...

keith can you post pics? I had a few older caddies fail cuz multec injector probs.

Actually one source I've found has the TBI with the same style injector, even though it's not called a multitec.

I'll try and find a picture. My 88 Grand Prix lost two injectors after a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. I know someone who lost all 8 on his Camaro from the fuel rail style.
