fuel filter question

it's not about the gasoline quality,it's about the "debris" in the gas storage tank at the gas station.
I would say change the filter every 2 years regardless of miles.
In a carburated engine, 12-18mos. the filters aren't usually as big and can't hold as much.
A very dirty filter will force the fuel pump to push more fuel and it will assist in lessening it's life.

Look to your owner's manual. Some fuel filters are good for 100k miles.
I haven't seen any car with plugged fuel filter ever yet (I've seen some with restriction but drives perfectly fine with today's pressure adjusted fuel system).
So far I've changed them out every 150k, and all is good.

I dropped the tank on my 93 Suburban twice to change the fuel pump. The dirtiest thing were my hands. The tank insides were pristine.
Follow the recommendations of the manufacturer.
The next time you are in a station with some pump repair going on, take a look at the filters that are standard in pumps today. I asked the tech that was working on the pump about the filters. He stated that it's more fine that most car filter specs used today. That is why you will not have to change the fuel filter for 100k miles or more. FWIW--Oldtommy

I change the filter in my cars every 30,000 miles...sometimes what I see drain out of the "dirty side" make me GLAD the filter is there.
Eric, why do you advocate changing fuel filters by time? If the engine isn't running, gas isn't being drawn through the filter...and there are no "short trip" or cold weather issues like there are with motor oil.

For me it depends on the vehicle. My F-150 is EASY and cheap to do I'll do it every year or 2 years (which is 10-24k miles). Literally is 10 minute job. Camry is relatively easy to do and also cheap...takes me 20 minutes. I'll do it every 20k no problem as well as the PCV.
Armada...no go!!!!!!!!! Filter is "life" and [censored] I hate that. It's contained in the fule tank. SO I'm hopeful it will last 250k or so!

I used to change them at 60k but I'm thinking 100k is okay anymore.
