A friend has a 2010 F550 work truck with the 6.4 powerstroke(still under warranty). He would like to do extended OCI with synthetic oil & UOA so as to save time and money, but Ford says 250 hrs max because of fuel dilution issues with these EGR engines. This vehicle idles alot because it has a PTO that runs an air compressor used for his mobile tire service business. It averages about 5K miles during the 250 hr period.

Your thoughts, suggestions, and experiences please.

Thanks

by the time it hits 100,000 miles you'll probably be ready to trade it in so I would just keep the warranty.

Don't poke a bad-tempered engine. If it were a 7.3 or a Cummins, I'd be a lot bolder. But with the problems the 6.0 and 6.4 have had, I wouldn't do ANYTHING to risk it before it comes time to get rid of the truck.

With that engine, I'd follow Ford's recommendations to the letter... and document everything.

I know of a <40,000 mile 6.4 PSD that self-destructed running down the interstate, empty, at 68 miles per hour in a F450 dually.

Once it's out of warranty, remove the DPF, and do the egr block off..with a spartan tune If there is no emissions testing.
The truck will run 10x better and get better fuel milage.
our work truck an 09 f450 with 4.30's got 11mpg with the EGR & DPF on and now gets 14mpg with the egr block and DPF removed. It just seems smoother.
