Original owners of each. No issues either car...

Just changed PP in Subie and added Techron to fuel.
Nissan runs Mobil 1 0W40. will add Techron in 3k.

After reading many reviews and opinions:
Finish a bottle of Lucas Safeguard just used in Nissan to hopefully undo Ethanol damage in both cars 1oz/5 gallons.

Then use MMO 3oz/10 gal both cars every gas fill.
Techron at each 7500 OCI for 1 gas fill
Lucas Safeguard 2oz/10 gal in the winter.

Use Shell for the Nissan. Will try to convince her to use Shell instead the generic Rutters behind the house. No other top tier anywhere nearby.

I will not mix any of these. Most often MMO, then Techron if oil change, and Lucas in the winter.

If MPG falters, will use 2oz/10 gal MMO. Or it improves try suggested 4oz/10 gal MMO... and alter as it goes. Hoping 3oz/10 works.

thoughts?
stocked up on bogo techron; lucas, and MMO with the 40% off ccabin with AAP. Is techron every 7500 enough? or should I also mid oil changes?

I used Chevron fuel system cleaner every other year about 2-3 months before smog check. I tried MMO with dosage 3 oz per 10 gallon once in my E430 few years ago, the engine didn't rev as smoothly as without it.
 
Ethanol damage? Just using MMO will be good to counter the affects of dry gas. Probably once a year on the Techron or Redline SI-1 would be sufficient unless there are other issues you have not stated above.

Figured so cheap why not? But I am cheap so that means it will just last longer. Maybe I'll do one of them a month.

replaced spark plugs early at 88k and looked good. rear 3 showed a lil more wear. PCV valve was still good for going that long too.

Yep. Not sure about all of these "Ethanol Treatments" since they are so new.....seems like every company now has their own line of "Ethanol" treatment.....personally, I believe the MMO should cancel the drying effects of ethanol fuel.....

Good for 1 dose of PEA every OCI though, not a bad idea....preferably prior to changing the oil, since I've heard some people say the detergents in the fuel injection treatments can seep past the rings and get into the oil.....but eh, haven't had a problem.


MMO you really gotta play with, I too seen the best response with 3 oz per 10 gallons......but I'm not one to break out the beaker and graduated cylinder and Bill Nye safety goggles at the pump, LOL.....I just re-fill/reuse an old 2.25 oz. bottle of 2 Cycle Oil.....so more than likely I'm waaaayyy under-dosing it, but no harmful effects thus far. The one time I added 4 oz though I notice a difference....the engine seemed to be quieter, but the MPG slumped a bit.
 
So I'm fully stocked up on Techron.

For those that use it and do extended OCIs, do you still just add Techron to your gas close to your OC or more often?

I think I may do Techron next gas fill since I'm halfway and then another before I change it. Then just every 7500 just before oil changes.

Also, 3oz/10g MMO every other gas fill during most of the year and the Lucas Safeguard this winter until it's gone.

If it actually caused damage to your car...you're too late. Carbon buildup is about all you can "undo".

Just saying its like saying washing a car will undo a car accident.
 
ok, to slow down/prevent?

concern about Ethanol damage got me interested in additives to prevent problems. Now I plan to use Techron and MMO for cleaning/lubrication.

If the Ethanol % does increase and/or the problems continue, I will look more into products designed to offset them.
 
Even if E15 is brought in, E10 will still always be around and I'd argue it won't cause any damage to your vehicles at all.

Thats just the borderline disclaimer, worrying about ethanol damage sounds like a "make work" scenario then anything. About all ethanol can realistically damage is fuel line components which have enjoyed years of refinement so they're largely unaffected.

If you want a fix, fix it with something that will increase the lubrosity. The "wet" factor of the fuel. I'd use MMO and be happy if I really was that concerned, the rest are fuel system cleaners, and ethanol itself does a handy heart of cleaning it out. I use nothing, never have, not even fuel system cleaners or anything, and all is well.

I'd worry less. I've never seen ethanol "ruin" a car but everyone seems afraid of it and there's becoming a huge market for stuff to fix a problem I argue isn't there.

Just buy Shell, Texaco/Chevron whenevr you fill up and call it a day. Saves time and aggravation (sp). If neither are available just use Techron every 5k miles.
 
Still won't help with fuel pump and upper cylinder lubrication. The lubrication qualities of today's gasolines, even 'top tier' fuels are terrible. My engine is slowly being cleaned via a dose of Lucas Fuel System Cleaner every tank full. Once I finish the bottle[bought the 32 oz bottle], then I am going to switch to TC-W3 every tank for lubrication of the fuel pump and upper cylinder area.

I beg to differ. Afterall: all major automotive manufacturer's engine developments never call on any additional requirements of OTC additives to add lubricity into gasoline during (development phase) and also end-user's maintenance scheme (owner's manual never call for such needs as "upper cylinder lubricant" or "adds lubricity into gasoline"...or similar.

The so-called UCL benefits typically come into question (and being constantly challenged by nay-sayes such as yours-truly) for nobody (including all these OTC products users and supporters) been able to prove to me otherwise (meaning that they cannot prove to us critics with factual evidence that using these additives (2-T oil in 4cyl IC reciprocating gasoline engines, or adding those OTC additives that claimed UCL benefits, etc.) will greatly extends the life of engine, reduce upper cylinder wear, extend fuel pump longevity, etc.

Ok so about 3oz of MMO "seemed" to lower my MPG. I have a 20 gallon tank, due to the 4 gallon reserve feature, empty light comes on at 5 gallons left and needle hits at 4 left. So I fill with +/-16 gallon.
I changed to 2 oz last gas fill and MPG is better. closer to "normal".
Today I remembered to leave the car on so I could get out to listen to it idle.


SILENT.


with fan running I could not hear the ticking I usually do. when the fan stopped. I heard NOTHING.

I am a believer of MMO.

2oz per fill for life.
Techron around 500 before my 7500 changes.
 
now to somehow convince her to dump a little in when she gets gas...
thought about finding a small bottle for her to hopefully just dump 2oz I pre-measure constantly. but maybe the real battle is convincing her to stop at the shell very slightly out of her way instead of the same priced no-name station next door.
 
Go to the cosmetics department in Walmart, they sell a 4 oz. bottle of Acetone.......let "her" use the acetone for her nails...(or be my guest, and dump half the bottle [2 oz.] into your next 10 gallon load lol.....), and then "pre measure" the MMO into the acetone bottle.....it seals pretty secure and tight, have not had a problem with it....


OR, go to the lawn and garden dept, they sell a twin pack of "Ethanol Shield" for like $5 (read: the acetone is only 90 cents.....but this bottle is more fit for your 2 oz. measurements....lol), and pre-fill the little ethanol shield bottles.......depending on your car....the bottle MAY even fit "inside"/under the fuel cap, between the chassis and the fuel door, etc.....etc.....get creative LOL....or...just keep it in the trunk :P
 
There are umpteen jillion cars made with pure gas only as the original fuel.
Adding alcohol to it lessens lubrication, and other problems can be experienced.
Car owner's manuals often state for high concentrations of ethanol, to use more frequent OCIs.
My main concern is the fuel pump. Anything else is a PLUS.
