2008 CRV with 160k on it. I replaced pads only with Wagner thermoquiet around 90k and they were smooth until they wore out around 150k/1 year ago. Replaced with ACDelco Advantage coated rotors and another set of thermoquiets and 1yr/10k later they are shuddering badly.. The new thermoquiets also dust quite a bit more than the old ones. Looks like the Wagner OEX and Raybestos R3 are GG rated. What Rotor/Pad combo would you use? My main concerns are low dust and quiet braking and I don't feel like spending a fortune. Can get R3 rotors/pads for $125 on RA. Saw this EBC kit on Amazon that is sort of interesting: I doubt they are low dust though..

There is another EBC kit that uses the Blackstuff pads instead of the Greenstuff. Part number S1KF1033. Use those instead. The EBC Ultimax2/Blackstuff pads are awesome :)

For a low price, get the Bosch Quietcast rotors and the Pagid Silver ceramic pads.

And of course, the gold standard for low dust quiet pads, Akebono. Pair them with Powerstop or other coated rotors that ship from the same warehouse.

I've got Raybestos Element 3 or whatever they're calling them now on 2 of our 3 cars and am very happy with them. No brake dust to speak of (had Wagner pads on the Civic and they were terrible) and "performance" is just fine.

So the EBC kit and the Akebono/powerstop are within $20 of each other.. Which would you rather have? Low dust is honestly my priority.. Its a CRV as long as its stops as good as stock I'm fine.

That's good to hear. I had a solid 10+ year run of great success with thermoquiet's on various cars, but last 2 sets I've had are super dusty and these have 'warped' the rotors.

I've been more than happy with the PowerStop Z17 Evolution kit on the front of my Accord. Coated rotors and ceramic pads. They work great with very little if any dust. No idea about longevity yet though.

I knew I wanted coated rotors and decided on the PowerStops already, but then spent too much time trying to decide what pads to use with them, so I just decided to use their full kit with pads. No complaints.

The Akebono ProAct ceramic pads will be closest to Honda OEM performance. Do a search on recent BITOG threads on EBC pads...it appears several members have had poor fitment issues with EBC pads lately.

Akebono will be low dust.
EBC will perform much better. Also, their premium rotors are a step up from PowerStop.

That Civic had Wagner pads and Element 3 rotors and they felt "warped" as well.

The Element 3's on 4 different vehicles for me were a total let down. Previous ones were decent but the latest version of them I had something changed and they wore very fast. Dust wasn't too bad. Tabs rusted even with some M77 moly and jammed in the retainer clips.

Mine and my kids cars (5 cars) are now on Duralast Elite and I have no issues. Very easy to exchange if they wear early, we don't drive high performance. Rotors on the ones I changed when I had time to plan were from RA either one of the kits with pads or by themselves. I get the coated rotors, currently mixed brands between cars.

The Raybestos Element 3 pads on mine made it that while investigating braking noises or pulls, kids going back to school, my error on an install, I needed pads THEN not in a couple days so Autozone it was. They also had no issue when I exchanged 1/2 worn fronts on my sons car. I was doing rear pads/rotors so also checked front before he moved to VA. I figured I would put fresh on at the same time.

Search on EH3, E3, Element 3 and you'll find multiple members with same issues.

Most rotors don't warp, they do get pad material transferred when hot and held against rotors. May happen easier as they wear. I have "fixed" many by re-bedding them with the multiple 60mph-5mph hard almost stop and then a nice slow drive to let them cool without using brakes if possible. Doesn't always work.

Proper checking/repair involves getting a runout dial gauge and possibly indexing the rotor after making sure nothing is messing contact area between rotor and hub. Many people also have added issues from shops using 2 ugga dugga on one lug nut, 7 ugga dugga on the next and different on the others. Loosing and retorquing lug nuts/bolts if shop had it, even my dealer and trusted shop has definitely reduced my "warped" braking issues.

If it means anything someone I respect for quality information from experience had recommended Advics and Pagid as still seeming to be a good choice unlike the E3's.

Same. Those are what I took off of my Accord before the Z17's went on. I liked them initially but there was a lot of pad transfer and many attempts at properly re-bedding them didn't help at all. I think I only had 15k on them and ended up replacing the rotors also. Shame.

PSA - This wasn't the E3's fault on my '17 Accord but did result in needing pads then, not in a couple days so Duralast Elite is on it now. I had to replace a caliper for ripped boot before my son took it to VA end of April. The tabs were lubricated and moved freely in the stainless shims with the wire springs pushing them apart. Caliper went on, I was holding pads, just enough room for one tab to slide out but I didn't see it. No braking issues except random noise backing up and then 2.5 months and 5k later, started making noise when start driving from stop sign/light etc but stopped in a couple seconds. No pull, no shudder just normal braking even hard versions of that.

The Elites are GG rated if that matters to anyone, just watch that initial grind noise for pad transfer material.

I installed Bosch Quietcast rotors and pads on all 4 corners on the wife's Civic around 3 years ago and she has been extremely happy with them. The pads are ceramic which I have found to be low dusting and the rotors were fully zinc coated so they have maintained their looks well. She mentioned last week she needed to make a sudden stop and they grabbed perfectly when pushed hard. They are indeed whisper quiet and price was very reasonable for the full set.

I just installed front & rear Akebono ProACT on my Accord on the original rotors, they have been low dust and performing well with predictable progression though harder pressure. Cannot speak to longevity as I only have a few months on them so far. Paid about $20 more each axle (~$40 total) than I would have for the Bosch Quietcast equivalents. Not unreasonable but wanted to mention since cost is a consideration for OP.

I asked the guy at the counter and he said just bring the pads with the box and they will give you a replacement no questions asked.
