Friend blew up his car today

I asked that it be moved.
There is an update on this, the transmission is extra extra broken. We dropped the trans a few days ago and everything looked ok, but did not function ok. The trans makes angry noises when you turn the input shaft, and the input shaft moves back and forth. Clutch and pressure plate look fine.

That would certainly explain the shifter moving when the clutch was depressed. Hope your friend can find one for a decent price. I would have the flywheel resurfaced and put a clutch kit in it when you're there. I wouldn't want to find out that something went awry with it or damaged it ALMOST to the point of failure two months down the line.
