So, one of the claims being made by a certain MLM oil vendor is that their oils, despite having higher levels of ZDDP and other similar suspect O2 sensor and cat poisons, actually reduce overall emmissions of O2 and cat contaminants since they are changed less often.
Also, oils that are only spec'ed by their manufacturers for short change intervals also tend to have higher amounts of boil-off (volatility), and higher overall per unit distance oil consumption.
Does anyone here have any feelings whether this is really a major issue, and does this make the 3000 mile oil change with cheap dino an even worse example of 'false economy'? I mean, a set of oxygen sensors for a new car can run well over $100, and obviously more rapid degradation of these components due to too-frequent oil changes must be factored into the overall life-cycle cost of using a lubricant in an engine.
