I had great luck with a Valvoline plastic end-cap type wrench I found at Wal-Mart. The filter on my vehicle is a pain to remove and attaching the filter wrench onto my socket wrench extension worked wonders.
Alot of cars, especially Fords, all you have room for is the end of the filter socket types. Ive lost my religion changing the Ford f150 with the 5.4 engines, you have to cock the wheel, twist and shout its a pain.
Ha ha! That's the first thing I did and it didn't work. Filter was too tight, covered and dripping with oil. It deoesnt make much sense to hit it while it on the ground, it has to be secured in the air to be effective technique.
