Francis Scott Key Bridge (Baltimore) hit by Cargo Ship and Collapsed

It is a preliminary report with no definite conclusions, but contaminated fuel has pretty much been ruled out. Two (out of four) generators were running as planned and continued to run, but main circuit breakers tripped repeatedly.

There are pictures of the ship's machinery rooms in the report. It looks rather clean and modern. Ocean-going ships only last about 15 years before rusting away anyway.

Breakers can be out of spec and cause tripping. I'd wager that more than anything else.
I read the report and 2 different breakers, one high voltage and one there calling low voltage - which I think was 440AC - both tripped. The way I read it LR1 was on the opposite side of step down transformers from HR1. Voltage spike maybe?

"About 0125, the Dali was 0.6 miles—or three ship lengths—from the Key Bridgewhen electrical breakers (HR1 and LR1) that fed most of the vessel’s equipment andlighting unexpectedly opened (tripped)"

Somewhere way up in this thread someone said that the pilots just gave direction and were not in control, the captain was. But the NTSB report contradicts that. I always was lead to believe the pilots own the ship in port?

What the pilot orders is not legally binding on the crew that is actually driving the ship. Practically though they will always follow those orders since disobeying them would make the crew fully liable for any crash that results.

Possible, we have a low voltage break at work that feeds 6 rooftop units off the step-down transformer. If the power flickers or some sort of transient happens it always kicks off. It is the highest load in the building at that time on a single breaker so I can only assume that is why.
