So glad to finally have a Fram Ultra on my Nissan. The filter is in a messy spot all the way near the fire wall. There's plenty of room for your hand but almost no way to prevent oil from dropping everywhere. I intend to utilize it for the full 15,000 mile rating and will enjoy not having to crawl under there an extra time.

I had a Valvoline jobber filter on there for 3k and the adbv must have been hard as a rock, always had startup noise on cold starts, but it's all good now with the Ultras silicone valve.

Still not sure about how long to run the Mobil 1 HM 5w30, going to be all short trip miles but I guess 7500 miles make it an easy way to remember when to change oil filter every other oci.

Next filter is a Mobil 1 filter I got for half price at Meijer with the oil package. I suppose I'll run that 15k also.

The previous owner did 4+ years of quick lube oil changes with huge highway miles. I think he said at one point he was changing the oil every 2 months.

This will be my first time taking a filter so long, but I plan to run my Ultra out to 3 OFI's, which will be closer to 20k miles than 15k miles. We'll see how it looks when I cut it open, though that obviously won't shine a line on its true worth.

On the Toyota 5sfe the oil filter is a 30 second job, it's looking right at you when you open the hood, I have an Ultra on there now, the only thing I don't like is the black gripping on the filter looks like burned/cracked rubber, it came that way out of the box. I am running mine at least 10K.

Yeah mine like yours... I have loonnggg arms so I can actually reach the oil filter from behind the tire. And yes it does make a mess when taking it off to an extent. I wonder if yours is the 6607.. ?? I'm running the Purolator Synthetic oil filter now that's the same size as the Fram Ultra 7317. I'm going to run this filter for 10k miles. The Fram Ultra I I have for my Altima I actually may well run it for 25k miles... Super clean motor that has been very well taken care of by first owner and myself. I'm really thinking this is fine. It has what..a 26 or 29 gram holding capacity?? I am quite confident it will be fine. My air filter is getting changed every 30k miles... So, why not a Fram Ultra for 25k ??

On a modern decently cared for engine , especially early on, does an oil filter really have that much to do, I am thinking not, as long as the filter is physically holding up.

I've had the same air filter on the Camry for like 50,000 miles, it still looks good , I see no reason to disturb it!

Yeah I bet your right on with your analysis here... Air filters perform better once they get some use on them. Same rule of thumb is true for oil filters too. I have a Camry similar to your. That oil filter is SUPER easy to get to. But it does drain down from the block on to metal below that requires a good clean up. But it is very easy to get to, so I'd take that everyday and twice on Sunday.

Mine specs the 7317 everywhere i looked including the fram application guide which is an absurdly tiny filter, but the 6607 looks even smaller, didn't think that was possible.

I have plenty of room for an oversize filter, but i haven't found one yet which is truly bigger in length and diameter. If anyone knows of the largest 20mmx1.5mm filter size let me know, google didn't find out.

Man, that 6607 is seemingly meant for a weedeater

heck, my filter on my Sentra was bigger than that. 1.8L vs 3.5L V6??? Makes nosense to me. There may be a smaller oil filter than the 6607 but I kind of doubt it. The 7317 is really fine I think. The 4967 on my lady's Camry is just a touch smaller. But even then... It's a fair amount bigger than the weedeater 6607 filter

First number is diameter, second is height.

I would like to use one of the larger filters, but really want a fram ultra or other synthetic filter. I remember seeing the XG3593A, which looks good, except not sure if it's really got a lot more media or not.

The Fram 7317 is basically the same size as the Purolator 14610. The 1460 has ~105 sq-in of media area. The oil filter for my Z06 (5.7L V8) is the Purolator 14006, which also has ~105 sq-in.

The Fram Ultra has ~72 sq-in of media, but it's full synthetic as you know, so can't quite compare apples to apples with the PureOne area. But what I'm trying to say is I'm sure the 7317 is plenty large enough for your Altima if comparable sized filters are large enough for a 5.7L V8.

Agree. The oil you use is far more important than the filter.

Not really, the filter is there for insurance in case a speck of metal flows in...VW beetle engines had no oil filter at all and lasted 100K on conventional oil

The XG3593A diameter is wider than XG7317 but it is about 1/4 shorter, volume wise it has more. I don't know if XG3593A has more media or not, guessing by volume I think it's a good chance that it has more media.

I bought some XG3593A's for S2000 and XG7317's for Accord from Pep Boys few months ago, when they had 30-35% off the regular price of $9.xx.

I intend to change oil filter in my S2000 every oil change, but every second oil change for the Accord.

You are using the bigger filter of the two options.

Looking at Wix, because that's what I know best, your vehicle calls for the 57356, which is the longer version of what my G37 uses, which is the 51358. The G37 used to call for the 51365, and the 51356 was oversized. Note this, since this is important further down.

Going to the Hastings website, the G37 uses the LF113, and the LF240 is the longer version. I've used both happily. Hastings doesn't list a longer version than the LF240 itself. The Baldwin B1402 crosses to the LF240. Those two are the equivalent of the Wix 51356 (or the 57356, since Wix has a distinction that not everyone else has, similarly to the 51365 and the 51358).

Baldwin shows a longer version yet, at about 4" in length, in the Baldwin B1431, which is the same as the Hastings LF486. If you try to cross them back to Wix, you wind up, again, with the Wix 51356. So, this tells me that not every filter manufacturer is making this third version.

My G37 is the same way, offering a significant margin for a longer filter, and even a wider filter. So, I grab the correct one off the shelf, usually, and if they're out, I grab the oversize. Of course, the oversize ones are cheaper for both Wix and Hastings, which really drives me insane.
