Believe he said it was run on his Honda Fit and had for last 1,500miles the HPL engine concentrate. I’m gonna guess oil was Maxlife Synthetic 0w20. Looks pretty good.

Thanks @53' Stude !

It was indeed MaxLife synthetic 0w20 ran for 9,000 with the cleaner for the last 1.6k or so.

Judging by the dome end, there doesn’t appear to be much grit or carbon there, but as @The Critic brought out looking into the pleats would’ve been more conclusive wrt that.

Also, based on how clean it looked under the valve cover (which I didn’t think to take pics lol), I’d say there probably wasn’t much to clean for the HPL EC product.

The used oil did have a little bit of carbon deposits when pouring up so there was some cleansing done but nothing like your typical abused or neglected engine.

That said, I’m monitoring oil consumption on this current fill after running the cleaner.

My primary interest was seeing if it could slow leaks better than the HM oils alone. It could simply be that the oil control rings are wearing out. I thought maybe if some were stuck, the cleaner might help.

I do need to rule out the PCV valve.

Thanks for the C&P!

So... the new synthetic blend Ultra with no wire backing, run for 9000 miles and it looks great! I'm anxious for more c&p's of the new style Ultra, hopefully someone runs one out to 20k miles! Maybe then we can accept that the new Ultra is still a great filter, even with the "cheapened" construction as many will point out.

Thanks for all the c&p's @53' Stude 👍🏻

It's amazing, huh ? It's like the Fram engineers know what they're doing ! 😂

If left to some people, our oil filters would cost $40/each with the "requirements" they think are necessary.

It's a tough guard... Looks just like a TG... With the higher price of the older better built and better efficiency filter.

Not that a TG is not a very good filter... It was and still is.

This FB filter is a very good filter too.

However give me a Fram Force filter... At least it's what it is... A very good filter. Without the higher price.

I have gotten 2 Fram Force filters one for the lady's 98 Camry and one I put on my old Nissan Altima VQ.

Need to get a Fram Force filter for the Acura TL I have now.

The First Branded Ultra is pretty much a Tough Guard with metal endcaps, yes there are some nuanced differences with the media between the two. I think that the new Ultra may be more comparable with the Champ XL at this point.

Agreed that it's basically a TG with metal end caps. I'm not saying that this OG Ultra wasn't a superior construction, I just haven't seen any proof to indicate any real world loss for the majority of us that only run our filter for 1 oci. For my particular applications the Ultra is typically only about $1.xx more than the TG, so it's a toss up on which to get 🤷🏼‍♂️. I recently bought a stash of Champ XL's, gonna see how they do.

I recently bought a 6 pack of the Champ PH2867XL, which is the the same application as the 7317. I don't have one on yet, but once I get a run in I'll cut it open 👍🏻

This anecdote looks significantly better than previous used FB Ultras (w/less miles) posted here have looked. 9k miles a substantial oci/fci. Looks fine. That said, it's less than half the rated 20k miles. Which the previous OG Ultra proven here many times to be up to that task.

As for comparison to TG, the only reason the real deal OG Ultra was said to have metal end caps was because of the metal screen backing supporting the 2 ply full synthetic media. Other than having a construction difference feature between topic and TG, FB could, 'using the OG reasoning', go to fiber endcaps on it.

Thanks for c&p.

The new Ultra is still rated slightly higher in efficiency than the TG, and is still rated higher in the "up to" mileage rating than the TG. Maybe Fram retained the metal end caps because of the higher mileage rating of 20K vs 15K on the TG.

Dang-I just changed my brother’s oil on his (new to him) ‘04 Infiniti I35 3.5 (PH7317 size), I should have let him be the new Ultra guinea pig (gave him a K&N Select instead), he ALWAYS goes over 10K!
