Fram Ultra XG2 ran 5800 miles with Valvoline Extended Protection 5w30 in a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis. The damage is from getting the filter off the car and getting the element out of the can.

I’ve looked at Walmart and I haven’t found a new version in the XG2. I always shine a light down in the center tube and the mesh is visible in the dozen I have in my stash.
