FRAM ULTRA XG16 C& P

Good Afternoon Folks,

Thought I would post these, with the following details:

1. Mfg: Fram Ultra Guard, XG16
2. Can Caliper: 0.03-0.325"
3. In Service: 6 months, 3000 miles
4. Core: Holes, not louvers
5. Media: No tears or rips; a section of media w/wide spacing; filter media securely in place with end caps.
6. Leaf Spring: Nothing notable.
7. Silicone Valve: Pliable, no issues; oil in the can.
8. Removal: No issues, used a cap.
9. New Install: Fram TG16

I have the individual components if anyone has questions that may require looking at the filter again.

The media looks perfect. The Tough Guard will serve you equally as well with a 3,000 mile oci.

I'd say yes since those giantly spaced pleats still look straight. Without wire backing they would be a mess, maybe even torn at the base of the pleats.

That’s what I was thinking also, and I save about $3 on the filter, not a lot, but i hate to waste money. This is for my wife and my 2005 Chrysler Town & Country, and the maintenance schedule calls for 3,000 or 6 month change intervals.

Thickness would be a better description, a caliper is the tool to measure thickness of an object.

I think the Fram product line is excellent, I have confidence they are a quality product and do what they are supposed to do, filter oil.

I just did a visual assuming the wire would be on the exterior of the filter?

I still have the filter, I will cut the filter material to check to see if there is wire backing on the inside of the material.

The wire backing would be on the backside between the media and the center tube. You can see it throgh the center tube holes if you look closely. Or tear open the media to see the back of the media.

The "wire backing" when present, is on the back of the media, behind what you can see initially and before the center tube. If you still have the filter you will need to cut into the media to see it if it's not visible through the holes in the center tube.

My bad, I am feeling a little sheepish not knowing where the wire backing would be placed, now I know.

Well thanks for checking and that is interesting indeed. I might use one of these instead of the 3614 if I can get it to fit.
