Fram Ultra XG10415 Cartridge C&P

Those links are just showing how the Volvo is the same filter as the MANN & Purolator but to answer your question I have 5 Fram Ultra's. I pulled out one of those Ultra's & installed it the other day when doing this change. I'll use the rest of the remaining x4 & then go to some other brand filter. I put in 8 quarts of Mobil 1 FS 0w-40. (y)

Very good sir. Thank You

Volvo OEM (You can see the Mann part number labeled on the end cap so it's a Mann filter)
Mann
Purolator (Purolator is sourcing this filter from Mann & it's the same as the Volvo & Mann.)

You can see they are using melted "foam" looking end caps (some sort of melted plastic I'm sure). This style seems to penetrate the media more. This is definitely going to be better & highly likely why they are built this way to prevent the ends from coming apart like these flimsy disc style end caps.
The Mann for $12 seems like a good deal. Amaz might be high on the Volvo compared to a dealer.

Agree, STP 10k filter I can get for $7.52 with promo or sometimes down to $2.40 with their other promo with air filter. Currently it's the top contender to replace these Ultra's but any problems with those I'll just go for the MANN.
I've been running the FRAM TG11955 in my F-150. It's a similar style cartridge filter. I've never had that problem.
Isn't that something?. It all depends on the filter model ha!
I wonder if the metal screen is getting in the way but that should all be tallied properly for manufacturing. The media should really be melted to the disc ends deeper than what they're doing.

So here is mine that I just took out for the 150k service. Did exactly the same thing. Also had to pump out oil that stayed in the filter housing. Never had that happen before.

Well son of a .... gun.
Irritating isn't it? Can't wait to dump these piles. :poop:
You have the XC60 right? Thanks for sharing yours!
Yes, it's a 2015 XC60 with the turbo 6. Nice engine, lousy filter 😅. Will not consider again. Will stick with the OEM Manns that are glue molded at the ends. Replaced with the Valvoline branded one, Made in Germany so it's most likely Mann. I have one Hengst same construction style as Fram. Will use since I have before on a T5 with no issues, but they have me worried now.

I think the only thing saving that filter from passing rocks is that while assembled, the cap holds it tight. Were some good carbon chunks in the media that didn't look like it got past the end caps. Will post a C&P after wicking.

Fram seems to have an issue with potting wire baked media to the end caps.
This OG model is lousy to say the least! Thought I was getting a bargain since these are still wire backed. ha!

These disc ends are too thin & they really need to use thicker end caps to melt these ends into the media deeper so they'll hold better. It doesn't appear they're using any glue on these but just melting the plastic & letting it mold onto the media but yeah like you mentioned getting that wire backing into the end caps more would certainly help too.

Explains why the OEM has the molded ends & leads to good reason to use OEM whenever you can. I need to look at the dates of these filters & post them.

Agree 👍
I'd take that Hengst over this model. I mentioned previously that I'll probably use the STP from AutoZone since it uses the OEM style molded "foam" that appears to never be an issue like this Ultra. Can you post that Hengst when you're done using it? Is the 3.0L turbo part of the T6 trim or something?

Sure, I'll post the Hengst, but it might be a while. I have the Valvoline in now but will use it next OCI. The turbo is part of the T6 trim and is the same engine family as your 3.2. The XC for that year had 4 engine options. 4cyl "T5", 5 cyl T5, 6 cyl 3.2, and 6 cyl T6.
