Wow, that is bad looking. Seal area reduced, chopped off on both sides of the circumference seal ring. That light didn't show, amazing imo. Did the topic filter have the gasket material ring on the dome end cap like the OG XG, or metal on metal? If the former, could explain no light seen. Yes, looks like metal wire backing to me.

Maybe op can do magnet check for us. I’m betting it’s plastic.

The XG2 I cut open had the steel mesh like this. The media wasn’t pink. The mesh shouldn’t be magnetic, they use stainless. I see a bump on the leaf spring contact about 7-8 o’clock, looks shiny like it was pressing on the end cap. The view is also interesting where media is torn open, looks like enough glue is over the louvers, or is that oil?

There was a batch in early 2024 which was wire backed. I noticed this earlier this year and purchased everything Walmart had on their shelf. These are indeed WIRE backed from 2024. I have a bunch in the garage.

Nice score!! Just like the OG Titaniums I was buying at AAP they appear to not be leakers. Fram does know how to make them correctly if they want too.

Yes, the sides of the leaf spring are chopped off a lot compared to how the leaf springs use to be made. It's another manufacturing flaw - they just need to make the leaf springs right like they use to be made.

The wire mesh could also be aluminum. A lot of stainless steels can still have some magnetism. I don't see any potting glue covering louvers.

Looks like plastic mesh, not metal on my computer at work.

If it was the nylon or plastic mesh, it would be bonded to the media and a lot thinner looking.

I know the OG Titaniums I tested didn’t leak. Those were made in 2023 with no seal. Leaf spring stamping was perfect.
