Fram Ultra Problems?

Please post link to torn media Ultra. I could not find it and am curious.

I cant offer you any links or pictures, only my own anecdotes, but I removed two newer Ultras from my son's car during oil changes last year and on both of them I was able to tear the media from the endcap using nothing more than very slight pressure with my thumbs. It was pretty shocking. Felt like tearing thin wet cardboard. Admittedly they hadnt torn in regular use, it was my intentionally tearing them that the "problem" exposed itself, but the ease with which I was able to tear it was enough to keep me from buying any more of them. I've moved on to Microgard Selects until they manage to screw those up the way Fram screwed up the Ultras.

There might be another alternative through Canadian Tire or Partsource. If you have either of these in Alberta, Canadian tire sells MotoMaster OE Plus and Partsource sells OE + Pro. I have got these for our CRV and the construction mirrors or seems identical to the Carquest premiums made in Vietnam. Between the two OE Plus versions, the Pro version at Partsource appears to be identical, except that I believe it’s can thickness is greater, and it appears to weigh slightly more than the Canadian tire version, although I have not weighed them myself and so do not have #DATA or filter cuttings to back this up. Perhaps someone online has posted videos of the two, but I’m not sure. Either way, they are an excellent value, whether on sale or not, and have the same apparent quality that the Carquest premiums do and can be a little easier to access in areas such as Alberta.

The one at Canadian Tire is made by Fram/Champ. The Part Source OE+ Pro Series are Premium Guards.
