Because cardboard.

Or you could just go to the dealer's parts counter and say, "I need an oil filter" and for $5-6 have a filter the engineers of your car decided would work OK.

Ayup. For some reason people still like to think that they know better.

Which new troll are you referring to?

Yeah sometimes now hard to keep up with it seems. I've found over time the ignore feature helps me to better keep track. Works for me anyway.

How else is this supposed to work? Is he supposed to resign from his position, swear a Jihad on Fram, and then represent them?

The only way to get info straight from the source is through an employee of the source. Employment usually means pay.

What's wrong with people?

So true. I would feel differently if he posed as a "regular Joe" and was a secretly paid shill, however, he puts it right in his posts that he is a Fram employee.

Don't be too hard on Jay/motorking-he has actually had BITOG people on plant tours, & he is our leading source on all things Fram/Champ/Rank Group built. If I didn't like the looks of the inside tube of a filter, I would just return it & try for another one. As long as there's no pieces hanging off the inside, I wouldn't sweat it. Unlike a Bosch that was posted recently!

First if all, the FTC requires any company rep participating in forums to clearly identify themselves. Anything else is breaking the law. Secondly, I do not mean to insult anyone at all. Just find these kinds of threads amusing at best. Much ado about nothing. I will say again and I have said it on here plenty of times, using the correct high quality oil as required by the engine maker and using any brand oil filter that meets or exceeds the performance of the OE filter, changing when you should or sooner will make your engine happy. I have owned many vehicles that have gone in excess of 300k miles and just sold a Ranger with 378k on the odo. The 16 yr old girl who bought is off roading it all the time and using it as a farm truck. Ultra filters, Mobil 1 synthetic, 8k oil changes. Again sorry I offended anyone and as always, if you ever desire a tour of our engineering facilities I am happy to accommodate you.

x3 on that.

This is still my go-to filter for all my vehicles. Best bang for the buck, hands down. And these things can run 15k miles.

Don't be so tough on Purolator. Excess potting that enters the engine is clearly the fault of the user not the manufacturer!

And if said user has the temerity to disagree with such an expert assessment of the situation, well obviously he deserves to be put on ignore and flogged in public.

I am passing by WM tomorrow and returning some Frams I bought just due to this discussion. I see the burs on the holes, that was the subject to be addressed in a technical professional manner. I have seen worse and better burs, but they are there and that's a fact. The point the metal from the burs may come off is valid. Champ labs even makes a point that their ecore is cleaner. It seems the climate today is to attack the messenger to avoid the message. It matters to me if the company thinks customers are automatically dumb if they spot a defect.

I just looked in my Ultra and there are no burrs.

Do I need to provide pics as well?

Where? Post the link to them.

^^^ There are no "burrs" on the holes in the photos shown in this thread. The lip of the holes are turned out a little bit ... no "burrs" seen.

Don't worry, I won't put you on ignore! I wish there was a way to send these Puro disaster pics to AAP, Motorcraft, etc.-maybe they could bring the heat on M&H to fix their junk!

This makes it seem like the filters he is returning has burrs. If he is talking about the filters in this thread, there are no burrs--only minute punch throughs and the slight flaring of the metal as a result. There is absolutely nothing that could "come off" from the holes.
