Fram Tough Guard

What say the BITOGers about the Fram Tough Guard oil filter? any good?

I know the Extra Guard & Double Guards are loathed here.

Do a search here for "tough guard" - you'll find out everything you need.

Fram tough guard:

still has cardboard end caps (-)
some other good design ideas (+)
very high price (-)

For the same money, you can get a much better filter. Don't buy Fram.

If you have to get a Fram, get the Extended Guard.

For that matter, pretty much any Fram oil filter would work OK for a normal OCI, wouldn't it?

(Yes, I've seen the filter test pictures of the Fram filters.)

They are good for one thing. Target practice! They are a nice bright orange, so you can't miss when shooting at them!

Please understand that I am talking about the Entended Guard and NOT the Extra Guard.

Two different filters with completely different construction and filtering materials.

Excellent filter.

Not entirely different. They share ADBV and bypass valve designs.

I can say this about the Tough-Guard for the 3S-FE Toyota engine - this filter is small and mounts on the side of the block, so it's almost upside-down: after the car has been sitting for about 10 minutes, ALL the oil drains out of the filter. I had to take it off to tighten a coolant drain plug, and the oil had drained out of it. So much for the anti-drainback valve.

I have gone mostly to the Pure-1 based on BITOG info.
