Fram TG12060 started collapsing at 5,400 miles on a 2018 Chevy Equinox 1.5T GDI. Rest of the filter looked good. Sent oil to Blackstone Labs. Oil was Castrol Edge EP 0W-20. Goal was to run to 5,900 miles to be back to a 5k OIC but changed early because average MPG dropped by about 12MPG over the last 1,500 miles. Ordered TBN, TAN, and particle count for the UOA

Was there any tears?

It is not uncommon for oil filters to become clogged or collapsed after extended use or if the vehicle is driven in harsh conditions or if the oil is not changed at the recommended intervals. The fact that the rest of the filter looked good suggests that the issue may have been caused by a specific issue, such as a high level of contaminants in the oil or a problem with the filter design.

If you have concerns about the performance of the oil filter, it is a good idea to consult a good mechanic or the manufacturer for guidance. They may be able to provide further insight into the cause of the issue and recommend a suitable replacement filter.

The results of the oil analysis that you had conducted by Blackstone Labs should provide useful information about the condition of the oil in your vehicle. The TBN (total base number) and TAN (total acid number) can indicate the level of contaminants and degradation in the oil, while the particle count can help to identify any particulate matter that may be present in the oil. These results, along with any other diagnostic information, can help to determine the cause of the issue and identify any potential problems that may need to be addressed.

The TG10060 is not the correct oil filter for your Eqinox. The correct filter is a TG12060 or equivalent.
The bypass settings are too far apart.

True but since that filter was designed for that bypass pressure even if wrong for the engine why would it cause one pleat of the media to shift like that?

That may not be the case here since OP says correct filter used but in general?

He edited his original post. He originally said it was a TG10060.
The filter is just ugly. Poor quality control in the manufacturing. Pleat spacing is horrible.
He also said that his gas mileage “dropped by about 12 MPG”. If that is the case, he has problems other than the oil filter.

With all my knowledge of owning many vehicles throughout the year is that I would always get lower mileage in colder weather. I got the best mileage in the shoulder seasons (spring & fall temps). I would blame the low temps before anything else first, on lower mpg, which would have nothing to do with the filter. Thanks for the post!

TG is supposedly better than EG.... I just don't understand why Fram can't add a few more pleats to their filters.

As long as their are no tears, I wouldn't worry. But, I would probably avoid that PN for peace of mind. The only way a business learns is when you stop doing business with them.

The OLM had 30% left, the oil was Edge EP 20k mile oil and the filter was 15k mile. 5k shouldn't have been unreasonable of a length. D1G2 Oil means it's certified by GM

But, not 12 MPG!
