I ran this in my Jeep for about 1000 miles. Nothing really to see here aside from the odd pleat spacing on the opposite side of the seam.

Continue on if you want to read some filter geek talk:

Right after I changed my oil back in September/ early October, my thermostat started acting up and made the engine run too cold. I didnt like how dark it made the oil in such little time so I figured I would just change it for peace of mind. Probably could have ran the filter 2x, but meh. I also ran Seafoam for about 600 of those miles just so the oil didnt die in complete vain.

I first installed a Carquest Red by Champion Labs, but my Jeep didnt seem to care for the spring style bypass so it came off in less than 50 miles. (Ill post pictures tomorrow guys.) It ticked while hot which drove me nuts. I still like those filters a lot for other applications though. I encourage all of you to give them a try. They seem to have thicker cans than other Frams and are very heavy. $3.69 at AAP. Right now I am running a Fram Extra Guard. After seeing the most recent PH16's with added media, I decided to give it a try. So far it behaves like the TG. The winter OCI with 5k miles will be a good test for you guys.

I just put a Fram Tough Guard on the Focus along with some Pennzoil 0w-20. It's whisper quiet.

It was a bit more than the Motorcraft filters I usually use - but barring any failure, I don't see why I won't continue to run these in the Focus.

The Jeep will get the Motorcrafts since they are cheaper and I don't extend the oil much past 5000 6000 miles

I'm a big fan of Tough Guards. The opposite side pleat spacing is unusual though as you pointed out, not a problem but odd don't usually see that.

How many pleats on that TG16, 45 or so maybe?

Thanks for the cut and post!

I'm running tough guards for 20000 miles on my known clean engines.

Yes. 20000 miles. Upon dissection I have yet to find any issues or any failures. Anti drain back valve is still pliable too.

Be sure to post pics of the 20k TG's. I am assuming you mean miles rather than kilometers.

KC, Ill count the pleats for you tomorrow.

Just noticed this TG didnt have a metal crimp over the seam whereas my last one did. Looks good either way IMO.

Isn't the tough gard just basically an extra gard with a better filter element?

I still don't care for the construction of these filters versus other filters with seemingly more robust construction methods, especially at the price point.

TG is more efficient and rated for 10K vs 5K and has a silicone ADBV.
