This filter was on my Yamaha Grizzly 350 for the past 4.5 years. Story from when I got it is here:

This was the first change since the one shown in that thread that was full of metal. Happy to report there was very very little glitter in the filter this change. Not bad for a blown up 4 wheeler with a cheap top end kit and a rod bearing I machined with a dremel tool.. No consumption or top off's required over the 100hrs either. Filter held up really well considering it was in service so long IMO. Was replaced with more 15w-40 Delvac and a Champ PH2876XL.

That "cardboard" lasted pretty good for being on for 4.5 years.
I thought so too. One of the reason's I went ahead and changed and swapped over to the Champ, but I've got no complaints about the extra guard in this case.

Looks a little slimed like it was starting to sledge up!
May look that way in the pic but the oil coming out looked nearly as good as what I poured back in. Wasn't even black. I'm a believer that oil doesn't go bad in the sump and as long as it gets fully up to temp regularly it last almost forever age wise. 100hrs isn't much run time at all.

Gee I guess you should have just reused it!

I might next time! haha. In all seriousness I think 5yrs is plenty.. I'm fortunate to have a good number of vehicles/ope/atv's that have been in the family for decades and have seen no harm come from letting a seldom used vehicle go 2-3yrs on an oil change, or in this case letting an old 4 wheeler go 5. Keeping them full is far more important.

I'd personally run a higher end filter for half as long. That one looked like it took a beating and I'm sure that base Fram is called "The Orange Can of Death" for a reason. No way I'm using a filter with felt endcaps. Also wondering if there's enough room to fit a 7317 / 2867 fiter on there.
