Someone who gets their oil at Walmart and doesn't want to make another trip for an oil filter would be doing OK to get a Tough Gaurd for $5.49. It has a more efficience synthetic based media, silicone ADBV, and most importantly a steel center tube. I'm not sure about the bypass quality but if you have a GM it's a non issue.

I have never seen a Fram Extended Guard that was orange, only the Extra Guard....

I am sure people just get tired of the same thread with a different title. No thread bashing Fram is ever different than the one before it. Everything that is said has been repeated a million times before.

It must not be the same as what you are smokin'. As for the "peer pressure" thing it definitely works both ways.

As far as the "fram bashing" threads never being different, how about the fram defense in those threads? You don't think that's getting a little tired?
To quote from this thread "Could you please explain how MILLIONS of cars over the years have run fram filters, and our roads are not littered with dead cars b/c the Fram filter failed?" blah blah blah.....

But hey all you guy's who like fram if it works for you that's great, you can have my share. I don't use them mostly because they are WAY overpriced for what they are.

Fram is number one for a reason

They work and they are priced right

So many jump on the band wagon and the goofs here make me tired with the repetition of internet [censored]

Just like in the past here when if one said Mobil 1 wasn't the best

they were bashed , you guys need to pull the head out of you know where .

Fram is fine, works good, and is NUMBER 1 for a reason

I had no idea till coming here that there were better ones for the money.

Yep, like Bose is the 'science in sound'.

Mostly it's because they pay the most in retail real estate prices. They just out presence the competition in many cases. That's included in the higher price for the lower offering. That's why a filter that should cost
Why do you think M1 costs $9.99-$12.99? Do you think it costs $9-$11 more to send it down the line? If you tripled the price of a Fram in rolling costs (which I have to put somewhere around $0.25 given the ROI and ancillary costs to result in the price of the next lowest competitor) how could it amount to $9.99-$12.99??

No highs, no lows, must be Bose!

I have a BOSE in my Maxima.. utter junk.

The factory coaxial speakers in my 96 SL2 sound better. Not even joking... 100% serious!

Mostly due to marketing and the sheeple who buy into it.

You can't be serious, there is no way you can really think that unless you only buy oil filters from the wall of fram at china mart.

Frams are $3.50, about what you pay for other name brands, Purolator, AC, Motorcraft, STP, etc. So yes, price like other products in their segment. Much worse filters? Well I haven't bought one since I cut the last one open. Proof their terrible looking insides do a poor job? Slim to none.

True that! I see more ads for the orange can in car mags like Motor Trend and others, than any other filter.

Add to it, that only by cutting open the orange can and other canister filters can a consumer really see the difference in interior construction. The average consumer either isn't interested or have the ability or inclination to investigate the "guts" of an oil filter.

Interestingly, the local NAPA dealer now has a display of 4 actual cut open filters (and price), showing the differences in construction. At bottom is an STP ecore, then an orange can which costs more than the STP below, and the Pro Select above it. Then at the top is the Napa Gold. A good display, though IMO the STP was below the orange can only because it was less expensive.

Before I discovered/read the original minimopar filter study about the time I discovered Bitog, I too thought the the orange can was the berries. Proving again, that ignorance is bliss.

bunch of mo's if you ask me

We should probably have the Sheeple get ASE certifications to make sure they know what they are talking about.

For the vehicles in my sig,

SRT4 fram 4.39 Purolator 3.49

sxt fram 3.99 Purolator 3.49 AC 3.79

Ram fram 5.99 Purolator 5.49 (Also fram is not on Cummins approved filter list)

Jeep fram 4.19 Purolator 3.49 AC 3.19

Fram's might be 3.50 at china mart, but at my local one they only carry the filter for my Jeep.

I have scanned the orange wall at Wallmart, and most of the orangeboxes are $3.50 about the same as the handful of AC's, Motorcraft, and Mopar. Elsewhere in town STP, AC, and Purolator run about $3.49 to $4. I don't remember what Orange Box runs elsewhere. So the basic Fram costs about the same as other name brands.

I guess we can agree that frams are in the ballpark with other name brands, but IMO they are certainly not "priced right" for what they are.

Yeah, it's like getting a Yugo for the cost of the base model Civic or Corolla. A good deal for sure.

It is kind of the definition. There is no arguing that Fram is a brand that has stood the test of time and is widely used and respected. It is priced as such.

It isn't the only market leader I avoid. I once started a thread here about other market leaders people don't like. Again, the great unknown, is Fram as bad as it looks? Or do oil filters just not make much difference? I could care less what is in something, I want to know how it preforms.

After seeing how a basic orange can performed with 20k+ of abuse, I have respect for them. I agree that there are 'better' alternatives for the price depending on how you define better. I would use them over an ecore. After my recent experience with multiple ecores, that is a filter I can not recommend.

Did I miss the pics, I didn't see them?

Never mind I found them in another thread: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubb...t=18&page=1
