One must weigh all the factors. Sometimes more expensive is less costly.

I miss those days! Walmart used to sell most of those AC Delco filters up here for only $3!! I should've stocked up on a whole bunch of them for my wife's Honda just as they started getting rid of them, but I only bought one. I still have it and will use it on the next oil change actually.

Walmart up here doesn't even sell the good Fram filters, the XG series. You have to go to Canadian Tire or Part Source up here to get those. I keep hoping our Walmarts will eventually carry the XG as well.

Nothing too much. They're just overpriced. You can get a better filter for less money. Now the term "better" can be massaged a bit here and there, but I'm figuring the cost of the average low ball filter is about a quarter. Pretty hard to shave off of that. Fram does.

WM doesn't carry a filter that I like for my truck either.
What I do is just go to AA and pick up 2 or 3 pureone's at a time, so about one out of the way trip a year.

I have Ford vehicles which have horizontial oil filters. All the Orange Fram oil filters have caused painful start-up noises. Once I switched to Motorcraft oil filters the start-up noise ceased. I feel that the Fram Orange oil filters with the card board filter base and nitril advb just don't seal that well.

For $0.10 more than the orange Fram I can get a Motorcraft oil filter with silicone adbv and pressure relief valve at the base. It's a no brainer decision.

If you want a better Fram filter they charge as much as the remaining Mobil 1 filters or more than Napa Gold filters available right down the road.

I go by experience and Fram has not performed as well as similar or equal priced oil filters.

Many people here dislike the cardboard end caps. That never bothered me near as much as having 1/3 as much media as an AC. I don't like the dome end bypass either.

Hard evidence they shorten engine life? Um, er, ah....

You think Fram is overpriced from walmart? I bought a half dozen OEM Subaru filters which used to be pretty decent Toyo Roki filters. Come to find out later now Subaru uses relabeled Fram's. So I bought half dozen over priced oil filters WITH a dealer mark up.

Seem to be working ok though once they are used up I'll be switching...

Frams get the job done, but for the same or cheaper price you can get a better filter!

I would cut one open. Could be Subaru insisted on a quality filter. Remember, Ford doesn't let Purolator get away with dome end bypasses on Motorcraft filters.

My local walmart carries a wall of fram, some Supertech, some ACdelco and some Mopar. Still I think maybe I'll switch to a NAPA Gold this time around. I have valve tappet noise which I am now thinking is either a sticky lifter or a plugged filter from switching to maxlife. I would rather get the oil changed at the dealership where I know I am at least getting a ACDelco filter over a fram.

As far as I can tell the faith some are putting in ACDelco over SuperTech is misplaced. The filters I compared (PF47 and ST3387A) appear to be identical to the WalMart SuperTechs, and both are Ecore designs built by Champ Labs. If you like the design, you might as well get the SuperTech and save a little pocket change. I suppose there could be some difference in the media or the internal structure, but from what you can see from the outside and peering down the center, they are identical.

By the way, here's a link to some faqs on Ecores: http://www.servicechamp.com/prod_res_docs/Ecore%20FAQ%27s%20Sheet.pdf
