My local WalMart is the most convenient, and generally cheapest place, to get auto stuff. I can get the Motorcraft stuff I like for my Grand Marquis, but the wife's 2003 Chevy Impala is not so well served. There are good choices in oil, but Fram seems to be gradually elbowing all the others out of the filter section. Mobil 1 is just about gone, leaving AC Delco (PF47) and SuperTech (ST3387A) as the only alternatives. They appear to be identical Champ Labs Ecore designs. So there are really only two choices at WalMart: one of the Ecores or one of the Frams (the Fram Xtended Guard sounds the best of the bunch). Which would you choose?

In canada Walmart only sells frams. There used to be AC Delco too, but now, just frams.
Yeah my local Walmart has phased out Mobil 1 filters.

Even my local R&S Strauss' are slowly getting rid of the Mobil 1 stash and competitors for all Purolator.

We have a local farm supply chain in the midwest that used to sell Purolator filters. A little higher than Frams at Walmart, but if you caught a sale, it was worth it.
About a year ago they switched to Fram. To me that didn't make any sense because the Walmart right down the street also sold Frams and Walmart sells them cheaper.
My latest batch of filters was throught Amazon. Now I guess the local businesses will complain that everybody has abandoned them.
I'm not sure what the big draw is to the orange filter.

As WalMart cuts back on selection, Amazon ramps up its selection. It is already the best place to get PureOne filters. With free shipping (orders over $25) and their usual great service, it's not a bad way to shop if you know what you want. However, WalMart usually has better oil deals. Last night I noticed that Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 5 qts. had a rollback price of $20.
Bigmike--no, I can go to AZ, NAPA, and AA, but they are less convenient locations and prices tend to be higher on other stuff I want. It would be nice to be able to get everything in one spot.
I agree about convenience. I know all about shops complaining, bit off topic but I used to be a manager at Blockbuster when I was attending University and Video Den used to send out letters to its customers stating that they abandoned them etc. Crude business practice.
Most local auto parts stores that are mom and pops are more expensive, heck there is this one called Circle Auto that was selling Formula Shell conventional for $6.33 p/qt!!

Well maybe if Fram is boycotted they will start to carry other brands.
Walmart carries products that the mfgs give them the best overall deal!
If Wal*Mart has your OEM filter for under $4, I wouldn't even think of anything else. Been years since I saw a PF 1177 there and never saw a PF 457.
Before I made a habit of saving a buck on ST over AC, I would cut one of each open and have a look. Back when I could buy a PF 1177 or an ST 3950, the AC had half again more media.
I would be very happy to find an Ecore with a bypass and 20 mm thread in place of the the dome end junk I have been running on my truck.

My Pep Boys carries mostly Purolator with a smaller selection of Fram filters. They also carry some Motorcraft, AC Delco, ProLine (purolator), Mobil 1, Royal Purple and Mopar. There may be a few other brands I'm forgetting as well. That's where I usually go for filters when I shop for them locally. They have a really good selection and decent prices on them.

I've had some fantastic deals buying filters online lately...
I just stopped by the Kmart by my house, and all the Fram is gone! Replaced with Purolator. Kmart is brighter than I thought!

As a father doing errands with children in tow...one can pay more at autozone for oil supplies and not buy a toy therefore coming out ahead vs. a wal-mart trip.
