At a local Wal-Mart, my friend picked up a SuperTech ST16 filter. On a whim, I opened the box, and there's a Fram PH16 sitting inside! Needless to say, that one was exchanged for the SuperTech.

whats the reason for this post?
happens all the time when people are trying to steal better prices.

Looks like you got the 4.0 jeep. Get a Mobil-1 , fram ph8a equivalent. Think its a M-301

For apllication where you can use the slightly longer filter, the Supertech PH 8A filters more for the same price as the PH 16.

I accidently did something similar with two Fram air filters. I had both the regular Fram and the Fram AirHog out of their respective boxes comparing them side by side in the store. When I got home to install the air filter, the AirHog was inside the regular box I bought. I couldn't sleep for three weeks after that; the guilt was chewing me up inside.

I hope you know it is a quote from an idiot, who posted that.
Note the quotation marks.

That is kinda funny.

I'll show them!! They can't rip me off!! I'll pay $4.50 and swap in a $2.47 filter in the box. That's fix 'em!!".

The shear genius of it all.

Whoever did that is a criminal...

I guess.... they actually paid Fram price for ST filter. Sounds like they were comparing and ended up paying more than they should have.

That's the way I read it. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!! Never overestimate the stupidity of a criminal mind.

..... or the stupidity of the Walmart stock clerk - who knocks over a wheeled cart of boxed oil filters - causing some indivdual boxes to open and disperse rolling filters down the Walmart customer aisle - then put the wrong filters in the wrong boxes - before restocking the aisle shelf.

So the dummy may not be the customer purchaser -- it may be the worker there.

Well 777, I'd grant you that your scenario is theoretically possible, but then again, maybe Martians broke into the store overnight and did some filter swapping. It sorta sounds like you're bending over backwards to defend someone who'd willingly bend you over forwards. . .

Actually it makes more sense that some stock fell to the floor -- versus a prospective customer intentionally putting a lesser $2 filter in a $4 filter box of another brand - then walking it over to the register - knowing they scan the outer box UPC.

I would rather live in a society with guys that "rip off" Walmart than guys that nitpick about what is "criminal". I hope I don't get reported for not having a front license plate.

Not if you are a color-blind automotive stock clerk at the Wall Of China. I forgot to enter the color-blindness-possibility in my original reply. Leave it to Wally World - to hand over six shirts to a color blind stock clerk (three red - three blue).... then tell the employee to hang them up on the clothes rack - where they belong!!!

Now that may be even funnier than someone paying $4 for a $2 item.

I'm done on this thread. Just figured I would add a few more options to it - other than what was mentioned early in this thread.

ya, except that even a color-blind person can tell red from blue, and can CERTAINLY read the difference between FRAM and Supertech.

good try though :P

on a side note, i was just at Wal-Mart the other day, and noticed someone did something similar, but for gain. the FRAM X2 filters are wrapped in plastic, right? probably to deter such activities. anyways, one was ripped open, and inside was a regular FRAM of the same size. someone got a 10 dollar filter for 5 bucks! bunch of thieves. i wanted to do it to, but i just couldn't bring myself to it.

I would rather live in a society with guys who choose not to steal from anyone, and don't try to justify stealing because the victim happens to be an unliked corporation. And the trouble with your desired neighbors is that as soon as they decide they like something you own, they'll be looking for a way to get away with stealing it too.

And there's nothing "nitpicking" about whether or not someone commits a theft. The law accounts for "petty" or "grand" theft, but either way, it's still a crime.

Not trying to be funny (a lie) ..but that would have gone well with the Dragnet drum beat and horns playing in the back ground. If you could manage a Jack Webb monologue tone ..it would add a nice touch.

Theft is theft. It's that simple. I have no desire to got to the trouble of getting something via slight of hand. It's not worth it and any ill gotten gain is quickly wasted.

However, if this was a slight of hand movement, it would be just desserts for some idiot that thought he was getting over on WM by paying $4.xx for a $2.47 filter. The misguided stock person would be another chuckle too.
