Filter was $2 on clearance end at local Wal Mart. Took one for team and cut it open. Notice the dents on some end. Box was even shrink wrapped. Enjoy pics

Wow, even less pleats than the TG I had! Here I thought they were the same except the HM has that special capsule in it.

Not even close. The first thing you'll notice is it doesn't have the orange silicone adbv which will tell you right away it's more comparable to the extra guard.

Able to add other pics finally. Done with tiny pic garbage as using laptop wouldn't let me load pics here. Anyways, yeah I wasn't impressed with this filter but what's $2 to cut and show what I found?
I'm curious about the composition of the black goop in these filters. I wonder if dissolving it in a known quantity of pure oil and sending it in for a VOA would reveal anything.

Somewhere there was an article about filter dents, not good if there is a crease. You didn't waste $2 I don't think. I cut my Fram Ultra open that had a very similar dent. I don't know where they get dented as mine was in the sealed box from an online retailer. I wonder how resistant the media is to tearing. I have been trying to tear them now to get an idea of strength. The filter looks fine to me.
The only Fram i would ever use is the current Ultra that is a great filter.
