Hey,

I didn't see a section for fuel filters (am I blind?), so I thought posting in here would be appropriate.

I hear all kinds of bad comments about Fram's oil filters, but what about their fuel filters? Are they OK?

Do all brands stack up pretty much the same, or are there some that are the best?

Thanks

Majority of all fuel filters these days are made in China. I haven't had issues using them. Water in the fuel system will effect any fuel filter regardless of brand or manufactured origin.

Buy a Wix (try O'Reilly's), or go to NAPA and get a NAPA Gold fuel filter.

There's no reason to use a Fr*m from china, when good filters are out there.

You better buy your stock of fuel filters then. For example the Silver line of napa oil filters were once made in the US. Now they are made in china from a relocated wix plant I'm assuming.

Come to think of it I've had some fuel filters leak (pinhole spray) on a handful of cars.

I just looked at a Napa Gold and an AC Delco on my shelf. Both stamped "Made in USA".

Probably explains why I have them bought and on hand.

wait a couple of months and see whats stamped on your next batch. If I were you I'd buy a bundle. The times are changing man.

I still prefer the AC/Delco fuel filters for my GM cars. However they have always been the most expensive and now are getting much harder to find. You almost have to go to a GM dealer to get one. Another quirky thing about the GM fuel flters that mount on the frame on the RWD cars is they always include a mounting bracket. This metal bracket is one reason they are so expensive. There is no reason I can see that you would need a mounting bracket each time you change the fuel filter- unless you lived in the rust belt and you drove in the salted snow all winter. If you look at any of the aftermarket fuel filters , they never come with the mounting bracket. Whats up with that?

Caution. Just because they were good filters 30 years ago doesn't mean they are well made today. I think at one point they were one of the best made filters on the market. But they chose to cheaper the internal parts and use the money saved to advertise heavily. As a marketing ploy, it worked well. Too well.
The sad thing is- it seems that other filter brands are now follwing suit. They are sending their factories offshore and the quality is going down quickly. There soon may be only a few fuel and oil filters made with quality here in the USA.
