I just bought these filters on Amazon. Are they from 2003 and would you run a 21 year old filter?

Wow haven't seen a ranger promoted like that in a while. It's either 2003 or 2013 but appears to lean towards 2003 based on copyright and date code. No way I'd run those cans. Return

Box references the SAE J1858 efficiency test (instead of the ISO 4548-12), so date code on the can is the 336th day of 2003 and not 2013.

Interesting, it has a screen mesh over the bypass valve. Is this used in modern Fram filters?...
Afaik, the screen over bypass was only used on TG filters, as seen it was an advertised feature. Iirc, the screen was removed when Rank Grp acquired Fram from Honeywell and gone for good. I wondered if they had the screen. As for whether to use them, storage environment would be a big factor. Ideally a low humidity one would be best both for rust prevention and media. If you think you might keep them to use, cutting one open could give an example of their condition.
