Hey guys, I just stocked up on Pennzoil Ultra 0w-40 and fram filters at Pepboys sale. Now my question is would guys recommend using the fram filters with an OCI of 4k on my turbo sonata? I have been using P1 and don't know much about extra guard filters.

When I looked at the cartridge Fram Extra Guard filters at my local AZ this weekend, they appeared rather flimsy (compared to the OEM Mann filters that I use). Call me a skeptic, but I would not put them on either one of our cars.
I did get one of the Extra Guard filters as part of this same PU sale, but I will be returning it to reclaim my $4.
With that said, they're probably OK filters for most applications.

Thanks for the replies. I have four fram filters and was just debating to use or not to use.
My concern with the frams is the unusually small inlet holes in the filter. To me they look like nail holes. I'm sure they are adequate but compare them to a Purolator or Bosch or even a STP. I bought 7 of the Pep Boys deals and I doubt I will use the filters.

The one I grabbed (4386) seemed to have normal size holes. Maybe it varies by application? ...

I was surprised that the PH 3387A had tiny holes compared to the PL10111, STP S3387A and the Bosch 3331 for the same GM 3800 application. The STP holes look like you could stick your finger through them.
Even the PH2 that I picked up for the Ford 3.0 has tiny holes compared the the 820S I'm running.

Fram filters are fine do you know how many I see on cars in hot rod magazines etc.I used fram filters all the time.Only after I came here did I question them.I think they are better than the AC delco I bought.I have 4 from the pep boys sale I am going to use them and not think twice about it.They are just as good as any of the cheap filters in my opinion.

Fram rates the Extended Guard for up to 7,500 miles IIRC. Your 4k will be a piece of cake.
OP is using an Extra Guard, not an Extended Guard.

I work for FRAM. trust me, the holes are more than big enough. If you took the time to measure them and compared the surface area of all the holes to the exit hole, you would find they are bigger than the exit hole and do not restrict oil flow. We test stuff like this all the time. They could be huge but the oil still has to come out the other end and the car maker decides how big that hole is.
