Good Morning folks. This filter was sent to me from member Toadu

Don’t know the vehicle it was on or for how many miles but it’s obviously off a diesel powered vehicle.

Construction like no "Extra Guard" spin on I've seen. Metal endcaps, coil compression spring, element integral dome bypass, 'some type of mesh' enclosed/faced media and different coo. Going to 'speculate', this being low volume sales application, is a 'made for' Fram OF. Looks solid.

Thanks for c&p.

Don’t know the vehicle it was on or for how many miles but it’s obviously off a diesel powered vehicle.

Thank you sir for the work!!! I've always wanted to see the inside of once of these.

I got 250 of them from Lowe's for $3.98 online. They messed up and priced it the same as a small Fram OC. They have it at $23.xx now. The filter bug has bitten me and while at the store I picked up a Fram Drive 10890 just for fun. Its a totally different filter than the Extra Guard I sent you for less than half the price as the Extra Guard. Much lighter weight wise. I believe it will be a a re-branded Champ / Luber Finer which is what the jobber Fram filters are from my wholesaler. I still have some of the STP scratch, dents and unsolds I got a heck of a deal on. If anyone wants to see these run and cut open---and someone is kind enough to do the cutting and posting--let me know. I don't mind running various PSD 6.7 filters and sending them to be cut and pasted so if anyone wants to see a particular filter for the PSD 6.7 post the request here and I'll order one and run it.

The above filter came off a 2021 F650 rollback tow truck with the 6.7PSD. Oil was changed by my shop on 10-04. The oil was changed just past 0% OLM / 11,003 miles and 307 run hrs of which 114hrs were at idle with an avg fuel economy of 7.2mpg on this OCI / Prev OCI occurred 9-13. Truck is 4 months in-service. On 10-04 total miles on truck were 56,960 miles / 1952hrs. Oil is bulk Mag1 10W30 syn blend Ford F1 approved. Truck runs 18-24 hrs per day.

This truck is currently at a Ford dealership. It had a major breakdown on 10-07 at apx 0230hrs on the interstate. The hi-pres fuel pump grenaded with no warning or dash lights. The truck just quit. The pump failure took out the fuel rail, some sort of modulator pump and the injectors. This is an outlier event. Fuel filters were changed same time as the oil. Very minimal water was found by ord in the primary filter--a couple drops--and non in the under hood secondary filter. Just a freak failure.

The maint inspection on 10-4 while lubing the chassis the drivers rear axle seal was leaking substantially with rear end oil all over the underside of the truck. The seal will be replaced while it down for repairs.

Total cost for the fuel system repairs including draining both tanks and cleaning them is between $12--$14,000 at the dealership. Under warranty fortunately. This is a HUGE reason why I believe 99% of med truck buyers are better off with gas. I prefer gas engine for a a lot of reasons but my biggest problem is the safety of storing 3,500 gallons of gas vs diesel and frankly my drivers stealing gas. When I had an all gas fleet I was loosing $1200-1500 a month in shrinkage.

A whole V10 or 7.3 gas crate replacement engine installed at at a Ford dealer is around $6k with a 3 year unlimited mile warranty not to mention the truck costs $20.000 less to buy in the beginning and gets almost te same MPG as the diesel. But anyways---sorry for rambling,

Have a good one to all.

I will know Monday how long the truck will be out of service but I expect it back Monday PM or Tuesday at the latest.

What ... so each filter was about 1.6 cents?

Thank You for the info sir. If you have any more filters I’ll gladly cut them open

$3.98 each / lowes priced them the same as the smaller extra guards at $3.98. The larger filters are always more. Currently this filter Lowes has at $23.XX each. Someone messed up and priced all of the orange cans the same both on stores and online. I was in my local lowes and bought all 5 of the ones they had and immediately ordered as many as the system would let me online multiple times. After a few days Lowes figured out they were under priced and raised the prices. Lowes did stand behind the price and deliver all of them to me at my shop.

I agree it seems like a decent filter especially for the price you paid. That being said only Mopar or Fleetguard are going on my 6.7L Cummins.

Just my $0.02

I’m sure you know this, but make sure the rear axle vent hose isn’t bent, kinked, or blocked in any way, or it will blow gear oil out of the axle seals again. This happened on almost all our E series Ford vans due to the vent hose getting kinked when the vans were (over) loaded, and my F-450 due to a vent plugged with dirt.

Thank you. Excellent point. I am adding the vent to tube to our inspection points!!!

I was hoping it was just the vent tube.....but alas its actually the seal. When my shop changes the oil and does a full service the while truck is inspected and documented. One of the things is to grease all fittings and the F650 still has a good number of grease points--especially with air brakes (which I hate airbrakes but that's another whole post probably---hydraulic brakes are far superior in every metric except 1) but the airbrakes have zerks so hopefully my techs would notice and clean the tube. (Who knows I do my best but there is probably pencil whipping that happens during inspections and service)
