Everyone in the group will have some kind non-agreements to some level. There were people when Purolator media was tearing constantly who said it was "no big deal" ... viewpoints on stuff like this is all over the spectrum. And lately, many don't care about a leaky leaf spring ... I say, whatever floats their boat and makes them feel good about their decisions is cool. I base my choices on my own decisions and conclusions of info and data posted and discussed.

Your analysis and conclusions are very accurate, and I think many people follow your insight when it comes to filtration and the constantly moving ecosystem of oil filter cheaping and defects by so many companies.

It might be helpful to many of us if you could share with us a list of filters that you think have no defects and have close to 99% efficiency @ 20 microns that you would recommend.

^^^ After the oil filter dust storm over the last 6-8 months, I've bought a few MicroGard Selects and few Carquest Premiums. Both made by Premium Guard. They obviously have nice construction and QA consistency as shown by dozens of C&Ps. They don't use a leaf spring, so no possible dirty oil leak path there. They don't use louvers but instead big holes in the center tube. Both have good efficiency. Their claimed efficiency is 99% @ 25u or better. Their price is on the lower end for a filter of that caliber, and you can get some price cut if you find a discount code at AAP for the Carquest Premium. At this time they are the ones I'm going with based on many factors, until they derail or something better comes along. Oil filter Whack-a-Mole concludes for now, lol.

Thanks for that info. I bought some Pentius PLXL filters. Trying to remember from the previous C&P if the they had a leaf spring.

Think they are also Premium Guard built, so no leaf spring but their traditional coil spring instead.

Pentius PLXL 7317 99%@20 microns 10,000 mile filter. Very well built. Almost if not identical to PG built XL filters.

The bottom line, regardless of how you want to define it, is that any filter brand can and most likely will at some point have some level of quality issues from some factor.

True, even Premium Guard had some oil filter defects back in 2010.

That would be great if Pentius oil filters are made by Premium Guard. I tried googling that, didn't really see any association.
Maybe it's just a co-incidence that they have a very similar construction?

Myself and others have been digging deep. A while back someone may have found a Korean OEM connection.

That was ~15 years ago, and he's just complaining about the filter looking "twisted" after it's been use. We have seen may cartridge filters like posted here over the years. Twisted and wavy pleats are not really a "failure" unless it's causing the media to tear. It makes the beauty queen judges unhappy however, lol.

I have sent a letter to the president of Mann+Hummel asking which efficiency numbers are the correct ones for the Boss. I will let you know what the response is.

Here is the reply: "The specification sheet for the PBL30001 shows 99% efficient at 46 micron. What is on the specification sheet is correct. What is on the website will be updated to reflect the same at 99% efficiency."

i can already hear “atleast they acknowledged the mishap, still going to support them”.

So how are people now going to explain why the Boss "ranked" so high in the BR efficiency test. I still think the filters BR tested had dirty oil leakage past ruffled leaf springs which brought their efficiency down to the level of the Boss.

They also need to update the Purolator ONE info on their website to match the Spec Sheet.

Ask him to correct the other two models, and where the original info came from, if you can or want to. Good plan to go to the top. Literally false advertising.
So no Fram, Purolator, and for me anything made in China or Vietnam. Unfortunately many people have stashes of filters they now don’t like.
