Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

Whip City opened a 3600 Endurance today. Check out those ripples.

I doubt they are "designed to leak"........
I "highly" doubt it too. That said, as 'some' comments show that idea has been posited more than once in this thread including within the last day of twos comments. I suppose it's to make one feel better about an FE purchase and use, and/or just in denial about what the light seen means.

As for the flat stamped spring design, having personally c&p many filters here with stamped spring and Napa Gold/(Wix) with coil compression spring, I can say, the "spring tension" with the former is minimal as compared to the latter. There is enough to hold the element properly in place, and when cut open will show very minimal rise between two parts of canister. Otoh, the coil compression spring will exhibit distinct spacing left when can cut. So, it is easily possible to replicate stamped flat spring tension outside the can. With that experience, I'm satisfied the light seen an accurate presentation of the opening space, and what that means.

I'll leave others to debate/discuss the whys and wherefores, I focus more on the practical. Just no need for me to purchase a filter like FE using this seal design. Perhaps, the powers that be will address the issue at some point. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe sticking to Tough Guards or ChampXL is good idea until this QC is cleaned up or addressed? Fiber end caps may be better if sticking to 15k on a filter? I'd rather use American made.

So what is the consensus?
Are we using this endurance instead of the old Fram Ultras?
I still have 4 old model xg7317 I need to use up but then will be buying new filters.
The old ultras/titaniums are superior in every way. The new ultras/titaniums are not showing this defect. IMO there is not a reason to pay $12.99 for a “high efficiency” Endurance if it’s in a continual state of partial bypass, kinda defeats the purpose. Please keep in mind we’ve only seen 7317’s so far, not sure how widespread this is.

100%, I’m really trying, even if some product issues, the general idea of keeping production at home over rules.

I was the one that sent him a box of filters late last month, which include these. FE3600 vs S3600XL are the first of the wave of a multi series videos coming in the future. So yeah you'll be seeing Donaldson vs Fleetguard one later among many more comparisons...

Thank you! I’ll be watching

“The new ultras/titaniums are not showing this defect.”
Are you referring to just the ridges or actual gaps?
I wasn’t aware flashlight test were performed on those and passed. Do you have a link?
As far as I’m aware no Fram Filters (with metal end caps) produced since 2023 have passed this test.
Thanks

Lot of assumptions there!
We don’t have a clue as to how much is bypassed in relation to filtered oil, but it’s definitely small, even with “calculations” attempted here.
In addition, we DO KNOW that the bypass gets filtered in subsequent cycling.
Considering the entire engine volume of oil gets cycled 4 (or more) times per minute, a highly efficient filter with this “defect” could easily outperform inferior filters with no bypass leaks. Yes, we both continue to speculate, but I will be steadfast in using the Endurance.😉

Then that should tell you these line of filters arent selling well.
😂
Why would that be? Because of the “defect”?
Joe Public isn’t remotely aware of it..,,they’re not all watching Whip City or us here at BOBS😉
Btw, the Endurance hasn’t been “on the shelves” that long.

My reply specificly is that this sample sent was recently purchased from a local walmart. Nothing related to this thread, just the video. If something sitting on the store shelf for a whole year should be enough telling you this product isnt moving faster than others.

The horse is long dead and beaten to a pulp. I am no way involved or up to date with the ongoing discussion. If you want data to back up performance claims then do an after service particle count as i stated long ago buried in this discussion.

Here comes that Dead Horse to beat …AGAIN!
We KNOW the the Endurance that failed the Whip City flashlight test was manufactured in early (Jan/Feb) 2023 and the BR test (shown below) was performed in late 2023.
Also, to date, there are NO Endurance filters that have passed the flashlight leak test. If there are, please post it here😉.
Do ya think the Endurance tested below was or wasn’t flawed? What’s >>More LIKELY? That’s a legitimate question.

I watched that video today, but he didn’t do a light test on the bypass. He should, it’s going to bring more hits to the site, plus people want to know. Probably 10 people world wide.
