Nice job!

Do you prefer the Fram Endurance filters over the Carquest Premium filters?

NYH.
it depends on the use case. 5-6k OCI, carquest Premium all the way, 10K+ or two OCI’s -> Fram Endurance.

it was extremely difficult to pull off the cartridge. the ruffles were very slim on this one.
I don't see the "nubs" on the inside of the hole on the leaf spring end cap like seem on some. Maybe they got rid of them and made it a tighter fit to help make a better metal-to-metal seal.

The nice thing about using the Fram Endurance Filters would be, I can get them at Walmart where/when I get our oil.

NYH.
they are worth it to me, but for you only running 5K you could let it run two OCI’s.

Everyone likes an endurance. This one did well for 12.5k.
A lot less people here are liking the Endurance lately. I had bought one for my Corvette’s upcoming oil change but now I don’t have the confidence to use it so I bought a Carquest Premium instead. We don’t have the Endurance in Canada so I had picked it up on a cross border shopping trip to Niagara Falls NY. But it cost me about $15 US I believe. There is a Carquest that I can see from the window of my condo and the CQP from there was only $8 CDN! So moving forward I’m sticking with the CQP. I should have set foot in that Carquest a long time ago! (I have lived in my place since March 21 and my recent visit there was my first time!)

You're speaking my language, it was in the sense of me trying to "behave" on the forum, you know why, and not hurt anyone's feelings. 😂

If we're not going 15,000 kilometers or have any trouble w/deforming filters there's little reason to use a wire backed filter. Add in the defects most filters suffer from they are not the most appealing. When you can get a high quality Carquest right in your backyard for $8 CDN I think you said it best... You don't have the endurance filter in Canada and that is quite telling. Why try to chase around trying to buy something hard to get when CQ does everything you need it to. I think you've chosen wisely. 😁

That's because they are on the bracket (leaf spring)
I took a closer look and think I can see them under the oil in one photo. So, with the nubs, the leaf spring will fit tight inside the end cap hole, but that also means there is no seal provided on the sides because the nubs allow a big air gap on the sides. All the sealing is done between the leaf spring and that raised ridge on around the center tube hole on the mating end cap.

So if the ruffles are outside of where the ring seals they shouldn’t be an issue?

Only things that matter is that the area on both sides of a metal-to-metal seal is that both sides are flat and smooth.

I thought Dave from HPL recommended changing the oil filter every 5,000 miles....🤷

if you have a dirty engine yes. these engines get a run of HPL EC prior to their 12k runs. i’ve yet to see a heavily loaded up filter.
