Yeah, but that type of attention (or lack of) scares me less than when I see folks that try and out-engineer a major manufacturer. Cars handle neglect better than modification.

I take it you aren't a big fan of cold air intakes, lowering springs, short ram intakes, catbacks, etc? or just not modifications made by the owner rather than a company that actually has an R&D budget?

No aftermarket company has the R&D budget anywhere close to that of the major car companies.

Exactly.
The Core is Fram's cheapest and is intended for use in quick-lube sub twenty buck oil change operations which typically recommend short OCIs.
The filter you've cut doesn't look all that horrible for having been run more than 2X its design life.
The pleats are still fairly even and straight and there is a decent amount of media.
This oil filter would probably not be on my list of good buys, but I wouldn't feel too badly running it for 5K on a beater if it were dirt cheap, although you can find better oil filters on clearance dirt cheap at least a few times each year.
Oil filters are like anything else in that you do get what you pay for. This cheap filter delivered at least as much value as it would have cost whatever cheap oil change place installed it.

Theres no reason the endcap should ever tear off. If the filter is so loaded it cant filter then it is in bypass mode, assuming the plastic bypass valve didnt break. So either way this is a prime example of a terribly built and or designed filter. Its a fail no way around it.

It really doesn't happen very often ... probably less than the metal end caps popping off of Purolators from the reports I've seen in this forum.

Im noticing a trend here lol. It seems like anytime somthing is said unfavorably about a champion made filter, paticularly fram, a few peopl immediatley start immediatley trying to divert the attention over to purolators.
Purolator has had their own problems for sure but has made changes and nobody can varify what those will amount to yet. Fram had some of its own problems that should be addressed. Let purolator take the rap for their failures and fram be held accountable for theirs.

You've must have been around quite awhile (under another name of course) to think you notice something like that.

But in reality, it's easy to see the Fram haters on the board and of course the issues Purolator has had will be brought up, especially to those who think there never was a problem with Purolators.

It's just ridiculous to blame a filter for a problem that was clearly just a simple case of owner neglect.

No one knows how many miles are on the filter, and once the media is full and the bypass is open full time, the differential pressure will take its toll on the filters integrity. The DP takes a push on the media every time before it cracks open the valve.

Any filter is going to look like that when abused unless it's wire backed microglass. I don't even like extra guards and won't use them.

Some people are gifted at noticing trends, they can spot them in one day. Maybe the talented trend spotter was just a "lurker" for a long while, and finally couldn't take the trends to divert anymore, and had to say something about it. That's fair, it's a free country to express one's views. These shill Fram diverters must have some kind of office or meeting hall where they have pep talks and training. I know it is VERY DIFFICULT to get in on the free Fram Ultras program. If someone messes up shilling, there is another waiting in line to take their place.
I went to WM today, and noticed all the ULras in my size, three were left only , had broken dirty seals, and the first one I looked at, there it was , a Fram Extra Guard in there. How lucky is that on my first attempt. I put the EG on top of the XG box and left.

^^^ I doubt that. IMO, these so called "lurkers" who all of a sudden jump in on threads like they've been participating for years are really just reincarnated members who where banned and have slipped back in. Seen it over and over.

goodtimes - I'm still waiting for my 1st shill check too ... so don't feel bad.

Obviously this filter is another victim of the failure you get when using a filter made of glue and cardboard. but don't worry, that Purolator will serve you well.

It isn't the shill check that gives you away zee, it is the palates of Fram junko filters you are pushing through your garage....

Indeed. Especially the trend of people posting under more than one screen name.

By now, they should have given you a higher position. You should ask to be in the supervisor paycheck group. I have no such aspirations, just not that motivated a worker. They have also pointed out I say bad things about their adbv's and other no no's about the Ultra, violating the shill contract I signed. Like showing the $4 Toyota has much more media, with pictures, they didn't like that one bit. They do watch continuously.

^^^ LoL, that's OK, I'll send you and JK one of the holographic pallets of filters sitting in my garage.

Sorry for bringing this back, but this filter did not have a bypass valve on it from what I could tell, unless the ADBV was a combo valve. However it did not look any different from any other I have seen.
