Off of a friends 2009 Chevy Tahoe that he “had some work done to it” lately. Oil was whatever bulk swill Wal Mart throws in and this. 4,xxx on oil and this. Yeah, it’s ugly, blah blah cue fram haters now.

Put some M1 5w30 and a WIX he supplied in and on. 187k on vehicle also and 60/40 city to highway driving.

Thanks for cutting it Adam. When I get some more filters I’ll send you some. From what I understand is Walmart gets oil off the shelf and puts in based on the price you pay sometimes it’s Quaker State sometimes Pennzoil etc.

Pretty horrible pleat spacing for sure, but so long as it did not tear, it did it's job.
When did the Core get a silicone ADV?

And depending on the filter, I may still pick the Core over a Supertech (I really don't like combo valve filters).

Is this media the same as an extra guard? I don't think I've seen an extra guard this bad.

It's ugly because of crazy wide pleat spacing due to bad/sloppy manufacturing. One thing for sure, the media can take a beating and not tear.

Looks somewhat similar to the PH16 size wise, which they seem to have down. I don’t get it.

I use either a WIX or Ultra on a filter I’m first time buying or haven’t been able to cut open for this very reason.

Pleat spacing is one thing but this looks atrocious. And I love Frams.

I'd go with the current ST9688 over this any day of the week.

You get what you pay for...That is an Oil Change Special filter (like Valvoline or Jiffy Lube)...It did hold together though...for very little extra you could get their Extra Guard...I consider the Extra Guard to a regular entry level filter.

I know for the cheap oil and filter only change they were using Quaker State Conventional at least they were about a year and a half ago when my dad had the oil changed in his Bravada, even gave him 7qts for the $20 price with no surcharge.

I need to get off my rear and cut the Pro Tec 57502 Auto a extra cross ref # one open. Was off a friends 2017 Expedition with some Harvest King 10w30 all fleet CJ/SM oil for 5,455 miles

people can't expect much for a $20 Wally's special with 5 quarts of what I believe is Quaker state conventional, tire pressure check, battery check I think, and some greasing if I'm not mistaken. Designed to meet the job because if there were horrible I think Walmart and other fram core using places would've been sued or we'd be hearing about it. Honestly a good filter considering how cheap it probably is. Probably just a dollar for Walmart to get with their B2B economy.

Does anyone know why Walmart uses Quaker state and not their own Warren distributed supertech stuff? Don't see why other than just convincing people it's good because it's a brand name although i doubt many people who get a $20 change care.

Dunno, I don’t shop at Wal mart much. I’ll gladly support Rural King. Everyone always hates on FRAM here; always have and they always will.
