I just started using this a few weeks ago. I am almost done with my second tank and it looks like i'm coming up short in the overall mpg again. I get about 30-40 miles less on the tank full that I was previously getting without the FP60.

I have heard/read that this can be normal when you first start using the FP60. How and why does this occur?

Any idea how long this lasts?

sw99,
How many ounces per gallons did you add? It has been said that too much can cause a decrease.

If you're using 1 ounce per 5 gallons, as the instructions suggest, then back it down to 1 ounce per 10 gallons and see if that helps out your mileage. It should quit after you re-fill, and dilute the mixture of FP60.

What if you really messed up and put in 4oz/gal?
oops, was that the LC20 instructions....

FWIW, I added 12 more gallons so it's probably about 2oz/gal now.

Super clean or super bad?

I have followed the instructions very closely. I have done the 1 oz. per 5 gallons. Last fill up, I put in 22 gallons and went with about 4.25 oz. of FP60. I see what happens after the next tank ful and see if I should use a little less in the tank.

To calucate fuel usage, you need to report as miles/gallon (mpg) & not just miles. Miles without the gallons (in mpg format) is useless. Actually, it's less than useless b/c it can give incorrect information & lead to bad assumptions. In addition, refueling at the same station at the same pump will help precision. Accuracy is not as important as precision when comparing if a fuel treatment is increasing mpg. Also, refueling with the same amount of gas in the tank will help in your figures. Of course, driving the same route every day, same style, same ambient temperatures & conditions (rainy, etc). are necessary to draw more meaningful conclusions.

I'm not worried about exact numbers. I drive the same ol' commute every day and my monthly mileage usually only differs between 10-15 miles per month (some exceptions). Simple fact is, I have seen a decrease in my tank full miles driven, bottom line.

Now don't get me wrong, I am just curious if this is normal or hearsay? I will continue to use FP60 for the other benefits, not only if I get better MPG.

There are MANY factors that effect gas mileage. If you read my post about my fuel mileage increases in my Sienna, you'll see that I compared my 11 month average without FP60 to my 1 month average with FP60. It went from 20.5 mpg to 21.7 mpg, the bottom line is that I need to run FP60 for another 10 months to see if it is really the FP60 that is helping and not other factors.

If your mileage has gone down due to FP60 and not other factors, I would have to hypothesize that your mileage drop is due to extra FP60 and gasoline being "used up" to clean the carbon buildup on your valves and combustion chamber. After they are cleaned up, you should experience increased gas mileage.

What kind of car are you running FP60 in? Miles on the engine? Tire pressures monitored regularly?

Running controlled mileage tests is getting into engineering and scientific territory, "exact numbers" truely matter in these situations, especially when the change in mileage is on the order of less than 5%. SWRI charges $6000 or so per day to run these types of mileage tests.

FP60 improved my mpg, and improved it even more when using the cheapest gas.

My only guess, and just a guess, is that your combustion chamber and intake valves are just partly clean at this point and you aren't getting the best combustion. Stick with FP60 to use up what you've bought so far, and see if things improve as your engine gets cleaner. Also try the cheapest gas in your area (usually BP's ARCO here) and see if your total cost per mile decreases. Mine did.

I don't buy it to increase gas mileage (though you can see my posts from 3-4 years ago where that was true in one vehicle), I buy it because I have no fuel related problems as a result.

No degradation of performance, despite fuel quality, tank-borne problems, etc.

In thirty year old carbureted cars, performance was increased. In new ones, a difference in fuel mileage in one of three. In none have there been problems of performance. Used or brand new at our purchase.

My family has accumulated well over 100,000 miles of driving on FUEL POWER. I recommend it unreservedly.

I use a tad less than 1oz/gal. It seems to help my mileage just a little.
Since using FP60, I have managed to get my mileage near 20mpg in my 05 F150.

I concur on the cleaning part. After several tankfulls, you should start seeing a gradual increase in mpg.

First actual calculated tank average was 15.66. This was really the 3rd. tankfull of FP that I have used. This was my same ol' typical driving route with hwy/city driving.

Second was 17.57 with all hwy miles. It was not too bad considering the fact that I was driving through a combination of mountains and going 90 on the flat areas.

I am almost ready for another fill up, so time will tell.
