After dealing with weirdos and scammers this 99 Isuzu trooper showed up on market place.

Guy seemed ok, he pointed out a few minor issues and what not. Test drove it and it shifted good and ran good, hot heat, cold AC.

Sounded ok. According to the paperwork I found it had 8k on the oil though. Looking down the oil fill hole I can see bare aluminum, not piles of sludge.

It has 5 nearly new BF Goodrich tires bought from Costco 7000miles ago. Date code on the one I checked was 34th month of 2024.

It's a 4x4 and the CV boots on the front axles are good and not slinging green grease.

Paid $2100 for It and drove it home. Seems like everything works so far like the electric locks and windows, head lights, tail and brake lights work . Tags are up to date which is an important thing here as fines for late registration can be in the $1000's real fast .

No Carfax record of accidents on it.

I picked up a microguard oil filter and I had some 5w-30 maxlife I put in it. Checked the front diff oil and it's full. Will check the rest of the fluid when the storm is over .

I do not have any info on the timing belt which Is in the back of my mind.

Currantly has 229,360 miles on the odometer. Looks like I can use pretty much any oil viscosity.

Sorry about the pics I took in the dark.

Good luck with the new car

For the timing belt, Rock Auto has the Aisin kit for your 99 Trooper and, of course, air filters too :)

It might also be possible to install a cabin filter

Wow that's a winner if it makes it 6 months without something major (transmission, engine, etc)

How hard is the timing belt job on these.... order up about 400 bucks in parts from rockauto.

wipers, filters, timing belt and pulley kit etc.

I had both a 1996 and a 1998 Trooper, both purchased used in Virginia. Each was solid and dependable. The only weakness I found in the '96 was the transmission, but it was abused on the beach by my teenage son so a rebuild became necessary. You sound like you got an excellent deal, despite its age. If it wasn't for the bad "rollover" publicity that the Trooper received, the Isuzu brand would have survived longer. Good luck to your cousin!

I used to mountain bike with a guy that had one of these, not sure what year his was. His had overheating issues, so might be worth keeping an eye out for it.
