Just blowing on in. :-D

The picture at top is the exposed part of the head gasket ( circled in BLUE ) that leaks oil . The 2nd picture from top shows where the head gasket is under the head ( circled in RED ), so it's very well hidden and hard to locate . The 3rd picture can be disregarded , this was where I 1st believed the oil leak was from the sealant ( circled in RED ) , but it was actually coming from the exposed gasket on over to that area . You'll see to the left of the red circled area is a shiny black surface , that's part of the exposed black multi layerd steel head gasket . The bottom pic is of oil that ran down from the oil leak . All pictures are from the 2008 sedan before the fix . No leak as of yet . Thanks again SL-2 !

We went back earlier this evening to check for the head gasket oil leak on the other 2010 3 door YARIS that belongs to a friend and it was there again after he had drove it close to 600 miles since SATURDAY when I had found fresh oil and recleaned it . This was the 3rd time I've discovered fresh oil . I showed him and his wife . He said he'll consider taking it in , but not just yet due to the 7 year / 100,000 mile warranty he bought when he purchased the YARIS as new . He's also not that concerned cause he said he can write off 50 cents to the mile for his own business which pays for the car and then some . MUST BE NICE

. We figure his car was manufactured in JAPAN about 4 months apart from our 2010 YARIS 3 door .

Sent an e-mail to TOYOTA in JAPAN regarding the head gaskets and was e-mailed back saying they're passing it on to TOYOTA in CALIFORNIA and would be contacted in time . We're already dealing with CALIFONIA offices , thus a waist of time

. Haven't heard a word as of yet

Found 2 more 2010 YARIS 5 door hatchbacks with the same oil leak from the head cylinder gasket at the same TOYOTA dealer where we bought the 2010 3 door ( still leaks oil from H.G. ) and had the head gasket replaced for the 2008 sedan ( no more leak ) . Both 2010 5 doors are CERTIFIED through TOYOTA . One had 3,500 mis. and the other around 4,700 miles on it . I showed the sales people the fresh oil that had gathered on my fingertips from both cars . The 5 door with 4,700 mis. had more oil on the exposed part of the head gasket than the other . Probably due to having more miles . They took the YARIS with the 3,500 miles into the shop where I showed the service manager how and where to look for the oil leak . I then again swiped my finger on the gasket and showed him the oil that had gathered on the tip of my fingers . He too believes it may be a batch of bad head gaskets . He asked if we could email him pictures of how bad the leak had been and of where to locate it , which we did later that evening . Also , at that time someone was getting ready to bring home another CERTIFIED 2010 5 door YARIS and was asked by the sales person not to mention anything of what I had showed them regarding the oil leak for the other 2 . So this is 5 YARIS with the same oil leak . Our 2 ( 2008 fixed , 2010 still leaks ) , the friends 2010 , and the two 2010s at the dealer that are for sale .

Forgot to mention the 2010s' where all manufactured within a 3 month period of 2009 . The 2008 was produced in APRIL of '08 . Bought it in MAY of 2008 . Therefore , it includes different years . Wonder if TOYOTA buys the M.L.S. head cylinder gaskets in bulk .

. Think the head cylinder gaskets are / were made in CHINA .

Found another 2008 3 door with same oil leak at a private dealer . Showed the oil and residue that gathered on my fingertips to the salesman . He wanted to know how to look for it . Showed him where and how . Took him a few tries to get the oil and residue on his fingers . The car was a rental at a TOYOTA dealership and has over 47,000 miles on it . Said he'd try to show the leak to their mechanics and possibly get the H.C.G. replaced under the TOYOTA warranty . Will check back on occasion to see how they made out .

We have found 9 YARIS with the same oil leak so far . Four 2010s and five 2008s . Mileage from 3,000 > 48,000 miles . Including our 2008 ( now fixed ) and 2010 ( still leaks ) and a friends 2010 that still leaks . Haven't had the oppurtunity to check out any 2007s or 2009s .Wonder if any PRIUS with 1.5 ltr. have the same issue . Has the same head cylinder gasket as the YARIS .

Earlier today we discovered the same oil leak on another used 2008 3 door YARIS with 41,000 plus miles while we were waiting for a few other warranty repairs at a different TOYOTA dealer service center for our 2008 YARIS ( w/replaced H.C.G. ) . Showed the oil and residue that gathered on my finger tips to the salesman and head assistant of sales ( checked for any oil on top / back valve cover and no oil , clean ) . Assistant said would bring it into their shop for inspection after we explained of our fix for the H.C.G. of our 2008 that was in their shop for other warranty work ( rough idle since new , faulty door switches ). Showed pictures of where oil leaks from the gasket and how bad the leak was to the shop FOREMAN that worked on our 2008 . Said he would need to see the oil leak himself of our 2010 that still leaks oil from the H.C.G. and the pictures were not enough proof . Told him of the used 2008 on their lot that very likely has the same leak as our 2010 and that our 2008 had and he blew it off . He replaced the switches for both passenger doors and dome light now works fine ( took switches from a new 2010 YARIS , since not in stock ). He then showed us the plugs and they looked in good shape , so reinstalled and said rough idle is normal for the YARIS . When we left the used YARIS with the oil leak still sat where we had found it and our YARIS still has the rough idle . Not sure if we want this service center replacing the head cylinder gasket on the 2010 . This is now 10 with oil leaks , six 2008s and 4 2010s ( includes our '08 , '10 , and friends 2010 ).

You should contact 20/20 or some other "news" outlet with all these "problem" Yaris models.

And if the vehicle is PZEV rough idle is the rule.

We've sent it into N.H.T.S.A. and their Office of Defects Investigation unit . Could take up to a year for results , if any . We'll be filling out the CONSUMER REPORTS survey that arrives by mail soon .

Cleaned the exposed part of head cylinder gasket of the #1 cylinder and went for a 8 mile trip which was 4 miles of a steep hill that the car was in 3rd gear of the 4 speed automatic from climbing the 2 mile hill and the decent where it kicks down to 3rd with the brake assist . When I got back to the house I then checked the gasket and fresh oil appeared on my finger tip . Had to be due to the back pressure in the cylinder . 8 miles and it produces oil , not good . This is the 2010 3 door with 12,273 miles .

Okay.

No way the "pressure" of the cylinder is doing anything to your "oil leak". IF you have a head gasket leak from the cylinder oil on the gasket would be the LEAST of your problems.

You may have a simple leak Could be coming off the valve cover. The head gasket holds combustion pressure and water. No oil except if you have a timing chain then it holds pressure for the crankcase. (which is slight)

Get someone who is educated to look at the "problem".
