I used to own, about 3 years ago, a Dodge Neon SRT-4 (took the 3600 series oil filter), which is the Motorcraft equivilent of the fl-400s, that of which is the oversize version of the fl-910s filter that my Focus uses. I know everyone hates the orange can, but I see no problem with using this filter with some MC5000 that i got from o'reilly's for $10. I think thats a pretty cheap OC. Maybe a 5,000 mile OCI? The filter sat in the garage for the past 3 years, but has been new in the box the whole time.

I used to use the orange filters; never had a problem with them. Use the one you have if you have an application for it, but don't use it long term. Their extended guard filters are top notch. Alternates from Mobil 1, K & N, Royal Purple, cost the most but are pretty much the best, from what most people can tell. Any of these is very good; just be sure it is the correct application for your vehicle!
