Glad I discovered it before the hose split open when going the down road like last time. I actually have a spare sitting on the floorboard of my other truck saw the puddle on the shop floor. Must have just started leaking today because I didn't see a puddle this morning when the truck wasn't in the garage. Anyways my point is it never hurts to poke around the engine compartment every so often. The oil level was high also, I think I put too much oil in it last time by mistake. It's hard to tell measuring a 2.5 gallon jug

Absolutely right! This is the main reason I do my own oil changes. I remember as a kid "helping" my Dad do oil changes. As oil was draining he was rolling around under the car with a flashlight and then doing the same thing under the hood. I do the exact same thing.
He's now 82 years old and still doing the same thing. He said the only difference now is after he finishes his inspections underneath he takes a little snooze on the creeper because the oil pan will be all drained in the amount of time it takes him to get back to his feet.

It turned out I was actually two gallons low on a 7 gallon system. Never saw any indication of running hot on the temp guage and it's actually a real guage on my truck.

Wow! Good thing you were looking. I've seen people walk past puddles under the car like it was normal.

Yep I caught several issues in the past by just detailing my cars or doing a basic oil change. My crv had a coolant leak that I noticed the smell of before spotting the blue coolant. I had a good clue that it was a heater pipe that runs under the intake. I was just in there a few months before when I was replacing

the starter and I noticed that the pipe was rusty. I needed the car the next day so I couldn’t wait for the part and buttoned her up. Only to do the same exact disassembly again.

Was doing checking the oil one day on my old Expedition and just happened to see a small wet spot in the I take manifold. Pulled the stupid vanity cover and sure enough, the intake had started to leak at the thermostat housing. Now I pull them off every vehicle I have so nothing gets blocked with a quick dipstick pull.
Always pays to make visual inspections. Nice catch.
