I forgot to reset the OLM on the Burb after its most recent OC and racked up 1200 freeway miles during my recent road trip (https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/3374287/Road_trip_roundup) before resetting it. The OLM does not display the percentage of oil life remaining and simply displays "Change engine oil" on the dash when it is due. Typical OCIs following the OLM have been 3,500-4,500 miles with one going about 5,000 when it included a 700 mile road trip. With the first 3,000 miles of this OCI being 95% highway miles with multi hour runs between shutdowns, should I just go to 5,000 and change? Or should I extend this OCI by 1,200 miles by running the OLM down to the change notification seeing as I am running a synthetic SM oil (although others' UOA have shown it to not be fit for extended drains) and the OLM is calibrated for conventional SL oils?

P.S. I added 1 qt of top-up oil 3,000 miles in.

I ran PP 5k miles in my GM 3.1 with only 1.5 TBN left. I'm not so sure his V8 fairs much better. Some applications do well with extending changes like Japanese 4 cylinders but thus might not be it.

Strange your Suburban doesn't display percentage of oil life. My grandma's 2002 Trailblazer I believe shows percentage. Although it is a LTZ

None of the GMT-800 trucks do. It just lights up in the message center.

False.

Our fleet has two different Silverados in 04 and 05 models that DO display percentage of oil life remaining in the VIC display in the dashboard.

That would require smelling it too.

Since you have other analysis that shows it does not do well with extended drains, and you might have gotten it FAR, I would say change it at 5k and don't push it.

Usually, Free After Rebate.

I would just do 5k...your owners manual will tell you to change it 3k if the OLM wasn't reset.

I agree with 5000.

Reasoning - since you are going 100% off of the OLM -

Previous OCI with a 700 mile road trip was 5000.

You just took a 1200 mile road trip, so 5000 is easy, with a built in cushion.

you are also obligated to rub some of the oil between your fingers for added analysis

Since you've added a quart of fresh oil and since you drove 1200 miles of open highway before reseting the OLM, you could just change the oil at 6K or when the OLM indicates that you're due, whichever comes first.
The 3K of highway driving will have been very easy on the oil as well as the entire machine.
