Today's project and first mod to my new Regal! I was feeling quite a bit of "surging" on acceleration, almost as though the boost would come and go as the rev's rose. While the old valve looked OK, it's a known weak spot on the LHU engines so I opted to replace it with a Forge Motorsports aluminum recirculating bypass valve.
The install was incredibly easy: I pulled the intake tube, removed 3 10mm bolts and the old valve, cleaned the mounting surfaces, and installed the new unit. All I can say is WOW, what a difference! 2nd through 4th gear pulls now result in smooth and steady boost without ANY of the prior dips in power across the rev band.
I've put around 500 miles on the car so far, and this upgrade has completely changed the feel of the car. I was considering getting a Trifecta tune based on the overall "meh" performance of the car, but now I'm not sure it will be necessary. I'm beyond pleased with the way the car runs just the way it is.
