Looks like our first large forest fire of 2024 is under way. The fire is near Fort Nelson, BC. It’s already about 1,000 acres in size and required an evacuation of 3,000 people. The smoke has reached Calgary.

Here is a good website to check the status of forest fires in Canada and the USA. Www.firesmoke.ca

Officially our weather app says it’s clear and high visibility here in northern Minnesota, but the view from my deck says otherwise.

Smells like the summertime road crews doing asphalt patch work.

My wife planned to visit a friend in Kelowna area this August / September, but it doesn't seem possible with the high potential the area will be closed off.

I just met two couples from South Carolina in huge RV’s headed to Alaska. They stayed at a campground just down the road from me. Generally the roads are kept open but once in a while they shut down the road and you turn around and go to the nearest campground. Fort Nelson is mile 283.

@JHZR2 , you laugh but it happens every year. Fire restrictions come in phases, banning target shooting until precipitation happens is something that happens every year.
Not really laughing at it, just don’t really know the emoji to use… like? Mad?

I’ve BTDT. One of my usual ranges borders on Fort Dix, an Army base. Often on the weekends you’ll hear automatic gunfire from the training going on. The whole place is heavy with pines. More than once we’ve had to have a cease-fire because they started the woods on fire. Because there is firefighter activity far off in the woods we had to wait until it was clear…

We've might or might not have started a small fire or two at Pendleton with tracers.

I'm in the central US. I have a Forensics 0.1 PPM CO meter, and yesterday it was up to 1.5 PPM. It's normally at 0.0 in my home.

It was up around 4.5 during the huge Canadian fires two? years ago.

Wisconsin now has two seasons
Hot Stinky Smoky Asthma Season
And Mild Dusty Asthma season

Nothing like 6 months of eyes burning again
