Fords tranny flush machine?

I don't know but one thing that bothers me with the local Ford dealer is when they flush, they do not drop the pan and replace the filter.

I suspect they don't use anything that Ford has, but an aftermarket.
Choice could be determined by quality, or by availability, or by maintainability, or by profit center considerations.
Off hand, I'd pick the latter.

The term "flush" is often misunderstood.
It is a fluid exchange......without chemical additives.
They connect to the transmission cooler lines and add new fluid....without any cleaner.....just pure ATF....as the old fluid comes out.
The new fluid goes in at the same rate as the old comes out.

I realize that the posters in this thread already know this, just want it to be clear to all the readers.

As mentioned, if you want the filter changed.....you have to ask for it.
The owner's manual for my '96 windstar does NOT list the transmission filter as routine service......fluid replacement at 30K miles for normal service and 21K miles for severe service.

Of course....like many here....I like to drop the pan and change the filter.
I have gone to yearly fluid changes, with a pan drop and new filter every other year.
That puts me at a fluid change interval at the severe rate....but easier to remember than 1.5 years.......

we also have a rotunda flusher. our trans tech flushes and back flushes the cooler and cooler lines whenever he has a trans out. he then installs an inline filter.

I have a new 2008 Taurus and would like to switch to Amsoil or Mobil 1 ATF in the near future. Would one be better than the other? I see no mention of an ATF filter service nor do any auto supply stores list a ATF filter for the 08 Taurus. My I assume there is no serviceable ATF filter for this vehicle?

teh 6f50 trans in your 08 taurus does have a filter. i bet it wont be available aftermarket for a while, since it is a newer trans. Mercon V is the spec'd fluid according to the FSM.

Dealers are free to use whatever such equipment they want. Last time I looked, Ford offered several fluid exchange machines in their Rotunda Equipment Catalog and Ford would encourage dealers to buy such equipment through that channel. All Rotunda equipment is really someone else's equipment with the Ford name on it.

Many dealers just use machines furnished by their local friendly snake oil salesman, so you often see Wynns, BG, MOC, and so on.

Does anyone else wonder if you take your own ATF fluid like Amsoil or Mobil 1 to a shop with a flush machine if they really use the fluid you give them? Or do think they might use your fluid in their own vehicle or sell it to someone else and put plain off the shelf ATF in your vehicle.

When I had Amsoil ATF fluid placed in my Ford F250 2 years ago I was able to see the entire procedure and watched the Amsoil go in. Unfortunately this garage has closed due to health conditions of the owner.

When you spend what the Amsoil or Mobil 1 cost, is it unreasonable to request to watch the flush and fill procedure?

I have a similar concern. I brought my Camry to a trusted shop along with a case of Amsoil ATF. I did not watch but flush went fine and I drove off. Two years latter I had a UOA done and it was [censored], so I emailed the results to Amsoil and they said it was not Amsoil due to the additives.

Talked to the shop owner about what could have happened two years ago and he could not explain, but offered to do another flush for free. I brought in the car along with more Amsoil ATF, this time he purged the new fluid container before the flush and was surprised he pumped out 2 or 3 QTs of new fluid. Then he added the Amsoil and then did the flush. So not only do you want to watch, but you want to insist they purge out the new fluid container before they start. Many or most flush machines do not empty the new fluid container during a flush.
