I never thought the filter was as critical as getting good oil that could stand up to the requirements of the engine. I think any of the major name filters mentioned here can do whats needed as far as filtration. My concern - and it may not be an issue but I have not seen ANY info along these lines, is- might the paper elements be getting close to breaking down after a full year of use?
My assumption is that a synthetic fiber would physically hold up better.
That is why I wanted to look into the ability to safely use a FL400 model filter on this car- so I could substitute a Pure One or Mobil 1 unit for the years worth of service.
The visual results of a year old filter teardown the other day showed a Motorcraft FL400S (from a 3.8 Ford) looked OK after 12 months but this was just 4400 miles of use- (Blackstone results posted soon as I receive them). UOA on another car 12 months & 12k miles showed insolubles at .5 - getting close to limit. I did not do a teardown on that filter.
So to answer the question on Mobil 1 filters holding up better than paper element filters- I will let you know the results on 3 cars - next spring of course.
