Ford V10 RV what oil?

30 is fine, but most of my gas moho friends run 0w-40.

The constant unrelenting high load results in water thin oil running out of the crank journals.

If the factory specification (established by the engineers that designed the engine) is 5w-20 then use 5w-20. Where is your data to support running 5w30 or 10w30?

SR5,

I have never seen in any owners manual, a listing of the correct lubricant weight oil for the engine in question. When it is stated 5w-20 preferred, I automatically assume that a thicker oil like 0w-40 or even 15w40 will outperform what is the "preferred" oil. I'm totally basing this on personal experience and in no was base my decision on factual data.

Nuff said,

Typically moho owners manuals will recommend a range of oil grades - you've seen it a million times the "grade vs temp scale."

I have used Mobil 1 5w-20 in my V-10 MH for 20700 miles since new. It doesn't use a drop, even towing a car and motorcycle. I had the oil analyzed and Blackstone raved about how good the engine looked. This was after 5k miles towing thru the Rocky Mtns. I've also towed through extreme heat.
Use a synthetic 5-20 like Ford says. Use Syn 0w-40 in the generator.
