If this question has already been asked and answered, I apologise, but I couldn't find it.

Does anyone know about Motorcraft Premium Automatic Transmission Fluid?

My niece recently bought an '06 Fusion and I'm reasonably sure it has the Aisin AW F21 6-speed automatic transaxle, which is spec'd for the fluid above. All the research I've done leads me to believe this fluid is actually Toyota T-IV, AKA Mobil 3309. Can anyone confirm this? The local Ford dealer wants an outrageous price for the Motorcraft fluid and I can get both the Toyota and the Mobil fluids for a lot less.

We have a 2007 Mercury Montego with the same drive train and the Ford Fluid lists for 8.09/quart. Try getting it online at Titus-Will Ford parts, they have it for around 5.75 w/9.95 shipping. I had problems with another online dealer shipping the fluid as they said it was HAZMAT and wouldn't ship it so I bought 8 quarts at the dealer for list. I didn't try the TIV as it is still under warranty..

The blue Mobil 3309 bottles list the Ford AT's they work with on the back......

If it specs Mercon V, then of course that is a completely different ball of wax.

Thanks everyone...I can always count on the friendly folk at BITOG to steer me right!

Dan55, do you know if this transaxle has a serviceable filter? My niece's car only has just under 30k miles, so it won't need one right away, but I like to be prepared.

I think those part numbers are for the 5spd auto w/the 4 cylinder Fusion/Milans.

From what I've read the F21 doesn't have a serviceable filter. Its simply a drain/refill. I plan on doing this to my our Montego in about 1K miles. AllData also doesn't list a filter replacement under the F21, it does for the CVTs in the 500/Montego/Freestyle but those weren't in the Fusion/Milans...

oops, you are right, i though we were talking about the FNR5 unit here. the F21 has no serviceable filter, but the valve body is serviceable, everything else you replace the trans, go figure.
