Chasing my tail on this and was hoping to get some guidance. The car stutters or misses. Started about 2 months ago. It only misses after car is up to temp. Runs great cold. No codes. Only noticed it in 4th, 5th and 6th gears with slight acceleration under load (going up hills) under 2500 rpm’s. Usually just one stutter but occasionally multiple. Thought maybe transmission. It is the Aisin F21. I drained and filled with proper T-IV fluid which is listed on the dipstick. No results. Car shifts great and no misses if I get on throttle. I cleaned The MAF sensor and the throttle body. I tried running premium gas. I replaced all 6 coils with correct Motorcraft DG-520 coils 2 weeks ago. I took it for a drive and at mile 5 started missing terribly and threw codes. Misfires in cylinders 3 and 4. What the heck? Had to take air intake back off and then replaced new coils with two old coils. Codes stayed away but still missing under slight acceleration after it gets warm but been driving the car daily for 2 weeks. Tonight on way home from work it started missing more frequently and threw a code that cylinder 6 is misfiring. Ready to give up and take to dealer but thought I would ask here before making an appointment. Car has 130k on it. Replaced plugs 2 years ago at 100k. Also replaced pcv valve when I did the coils. Air filter is clean.

How's fuel trims?
Check thoroughly for vacuum leaks?
You're not losing coolant right?

Where did you acquire this Motorcraft coils from?
Counterfeits are out there
Ignition coil driver failure in the PCM is not unheard of, I'd scan with FORScan for more in-depth code reading

Coils came from an auto parts store on eBay. They came in sealed individually wrapped Motorcraft packaging but could be fake I suppose. I do have FORScan but am not very familiar with it. Just the basics.

Back to the spark plugs. I replaced them 11/22 with Autolite Iridium’s. Been reading that quality may not be the best. I think I might get some denso or ngk plugs and put the old coils back in and see what happens.

So missing after 2 years on the Autolites, but no codes? Codes only appear after installing eBay coils?
I say install OE Motorcraft plugs, put the other OE coils back on if you still have them, and see what happens. I bet you’ll be surprised. 😉
The Autolites are letting you down after 2 years and the eBay garbage was counterfeit.

I know you're not gonna like hearing this, but it might be best to start over
Autolites are garbage for this application
And where specifically did you buy from?
A link?
RockAuto would probably be your best bet (do remember a coupon code)
Be careful with plug listings on this engine, only one NGK plug comes pre gapped to the correct 0.052
You could save a few $$$ with Motorcraft plugs (which are sometimes reboxed NGKs)
I'd also recommend every plenum gasket/o ring you touch during the job, luckily they aren't expensive

Can you post the exact ebay seller? How much did you pay?

Did you replace boots?

I just ordered the Motorcraft plugs from Rockauto with the discount code before coming here and reading your post!

Posted picture of coils. They came packaged as pictured. The boots were on the new coils.

I was careful not to touch or bump the green plenum gaskets but should replace while I have it off. Will keep you posted on the redo. Fingers crossed! Thank you.

Paging Motorcraft parts specialist @bdcardinal
That packaging looks sus, and I doubt even dealer cost could approach $11.14 each 🤨

Do a close compare and contrast when your new parts arrive, you may have gotten fakes
Try and get your money back through eBay buyer protection if applicable

At that price 100% fake.

Watch this, seriously:

Those are 100% counterfeit. They are selling 6 for a few dollars more than dealer cost is on one coil, that is suspect at best.

I was reading this thread at work and checked TSBs for the misfiring, but there weren't any. Then had to go to Home Depot and dinner, etc.

I strongly suggest replacing the plenum seals, use Motorcraft plugs and verify gap.

Yep. Just got off the phone with eBay and they are working on the refund. Seller had 100% positive rating and was advertised as Genuine Motorcraft. Got burned for sure! On the bright side I received email from Rockauto my spark plugs shipped already!

Quite often those sellers will have numerous auctions across makes that all claim OEM with ridiculously low prices. And quite often fb is good because people just don't know any better -- and maybe schills, too

This shouldn't be confused with legit dealers who might sell on ebay and offer parts for several different manufacturers-- Quirk is one that comes to mind

In other news, how do get someone on the phone at ebay??

Help and Contact at bottom of page. It will get you into a chat session asking what you need help with. I typed “Return” and it listed my purchased items. I chose the coils and it gave me the option to have a representative call me in approximately 4 minutes. My phone rang in 2 minutes.

I got the plugs from Rockauto.
There have been some reports of fakes making it into the RA supply chain -- and I'm not sure they're all credible-- but for the most part I'd say you're safe.

You can always use the FTM vid to double check in the future.

That said, when convenient you may want to inspect them. Many fakes completely burn the electrode away in a few thousand miles, but even at 30k the gap should be close to spec. If not, something's up
